What are these modern guns?
alan turner (RIP) replied to No Signals's topic in Artillery & Anti-Tank Weapons
unable to enlarge the image but the gun seems to have rounded trail legs which would make it an L118 105mm lightgun whichis now the officially recognised saluting piece. Last time a salute was fired at Woolwich Arsenal one of the guns came from tyneside and was towed by an RB44 -

not used to putting any of my handywork on display but here are the views of the altered airfix queen mary trailer and tractor. It looks like the trick is to cut the out frame in front of the wheel bay and then swap sides, springs are wrongput what the heck. -

I'll try and dig it out of storage and take a few views also fitted the cab from the K6 with the OX front to make it look a bit bigger. Warning they may all look a bit battered being 40 years old. -

Airfix magazine guide no27 of 1978 modelling RAF vehickes by Gerald Scarborough has drawings for the 3 ton version per the kit, however in my own kit collection I have an altered trailer which I think was from an article in Airfix Mag just after kit issued whereby the wheels are moved to the rear corners of the trailer and the lattice let into the cut area and I believe that this was for the 5ton version. -
Thanks for the comments re the images antar John but I will only take credit for lodging them on this site the real credit should go to the MOD photographers who from the thousands of negatives I have seen dont appear to have taken any duff shots. They all seem usable even when half stop differences are used for the same picture. Sadly Mr Charles Ellis whose name I mentioned in my maiden speech (introduction) is no longer with us having departed to the great darkroom in the sky during January this year, sadly followed a week later my his wife, he was 94. The CET views are luckily 35mm so easy to scan unlike the coloured one I included so I shall add a few more onto this thread Alan T

The guys who worked at the Rotunda did the painting themselves no information on who fabricated the sled I will try and find out after all its only boiler plate t girder and hot rivets. The pile of stones are the remains of the foundation stones that were found underneath the steam hammer bases that are on show at the Wellington green bit east of B22 and have no artistic fuction that I am aware of. tony see PM -

The RA Museum Firepower had a 100 year old 9.2" Coastal defence gun from Gibtaltar installed last week on the Clavell square on the river side of the museum weighs in at over 40 tons in all ttok all day but well worth the effort and generosity of Barclay Homes, to whom it will be on loan. -
