  1. Ah the Romans! Forgot to mention that whilst they were preparing the site in the arsenal for civillian use they found over 20 Roman grave cuts under the dial square buildings and in last couple of years have found Roman occupation just outside Arsenal site in warren lane 20 foot down kilns. have some piccies if anyone interested?
  2. Tony possible Neave for the east and I have a copy of the last full survey before demolition for the new prison set up, no mention, but have never been allowed access to that area, nothing mentioned by the urban explorers from 28 days later site who have visited that part either. never had access to Ver Bruggen's house. The rest sounds like Gremlins at work or Pookahs (see Harvey with James Stewart) although the 432 could have been feeling guilty as it should have been built at Woolwich not at Wellington shropshire, except fo government of the day' decision to stop manufacture in London area.
  3. Thats true Tony phantom marching footsteps on gravel outside guardhouse, area paved, hanged ww1 officer in B40 Accademy, and a young girls voice in basement there as well, Grey lady in Firepowers archive and WW1 gunner in main display by 18pdr upstairs, also a chap fell through the roof and cold feelings on walkthough bridge between B45 and 37 allegedly where heads were displayed on spikes. I believe Elanie Mortimore is doing a walk and talk about them later in the year Alan
  4. does Tony B do a running commentory on his bus routes?
  5. thats fine in a car if you have the reactions of a fly when the paper comes towards it, no middle age gut and a roomy seating area where you dont break your nose on the gear stick hand brake and centre consul but we dont all have those reflexes. AS for 2 wheelers no chance at all if in the mirror blind spot and thats for bothe sides of a lorry. and as antarmike stated it stops 70-100 gals of diesel burtsing onto a hot exhaust causing a conflagration that only the lorry driver can escape from, requiring dental record identification of car ocupants, and any firefighter who has been called to a fatal fire can tell you that a smell of roast pork pervades the air for some time after.
  6. the side bars are simply to stop cars from driving straight under the wagon taking the roof and passengers heads therin off the car, or a cyclist /motor cyclist from fallling under rear wheels and having to be hosed out from between the rear tyres similar reason for rear bars. Vickie Butler henderson was taught on 5th gear how to drive under an artic and live, most of us dont have that facility. Jayne Mansfield and her husband died in that way before bars developed.
  7. Thanks for the info Adam, my wifes cousin had not long moved to that area from Preston, when we went up to seeher, so neither she nor her husband could provide any knowledge of the base name.
  8. Is Banff the airfield that you pass on the way to the nature reserve at the mouth of the river and the roads named after aircraft?
  9. the images shown come from the official Artllery equipments book issued during the war with their relevant official notations below, sadly they didnt say whether Bofors or not but were the only 37mm guns listed.
  10. Les dont fret I have loads of model softskin 1/76 vehicles, but they are in my workshop in the loft with all the plane kits i have picked up over 50 odd years of modelling. I have never photo'd my any until I did the queen mary kits a couple of weeks ago, but they were in the garage having been treated to a mr muscle oven cleaner paint strip a couple of years ago. When ever I finish imaging the RAWHS negatives (2 crates and some neg books left) then perhaps I shall snap away, but yours look so much better than mine anyway.
  11. what about Mr Muscle oven cleaner for the breech interupted thread. It takes humbrol paint off plastic kits without affecting the plastic so it could be kind enough to work on the metal, especially if the breech is rotated whilst it is still foaming. It does affect clear plastic though
  12. did hear talk many years ago about all on shotgun license but things may have changed, Jason may know. Curator is MOD museum is a private Ltd company wholly owned by the RA.
  13. I know that down at Firepower none of their guns are deacctivated but the 2 (25 pdr & 2 pdr) that they use for kids to pull the firing hadles on (.22 blanks) do have their firing pins locked securely away when not in use in secure gun cabinets.

  18. the RA museum m40 carries no markings as do the vast majority of the equipment held unless its providence can be fully substantiated. It is not possible to get access to constructors plates if they are still attached to the vehicle, as the gallery where it is held is cocooned at present to reduce costs. I attach some of my own views of some of the kit to show non marking
  19. the burning plane at 5.30 isnt a fort its a stirling mg codes for 7sqdn based at Oakington cambs. same codes as in the airfix kit.
  20. yes Ted close to the model, but these negs only found in last 5 years, kits from the 70's
  21. 1986 leylands and QMS arriving with Canberra bomber in Woolwich Arsenal RAWHS stuff
  22. I had a feeling that there was another article after the kit was issued cos I wouldnt have thought of doing the alterations myself.
