  1. i think ours is with coversure. I think they struggled to comprehend the concept of an industrial premises being used solely for a hobby, so we just said its for restoration of army vehicles so they put that down as the business.
  2. I must admit i was struggling to remember how it all panned out, but galooph and Rootes75 have hit the nail on the head.
  3. Apologies i previously said it was done on floor area, its actually done on the rateable value, which your local council will have. They estimate this for all buildings in their area every few years, and then the rates you pay is a percentage of that. If your rateable value is below a certain threshold, i think its £15k you don't pay anything. There are also various reliefs for different reasons. Its all on the gov website.
  4. We own an industrial unit for our vehicles and its insured with Coversure, with an allowance for tools, equipment etc. Just make sure you get one that comes in under the floor area limit at which business rates kick in, because that gets expensive. Good luck, Richard
  5. Recently got the cab on. Really pleased its starting to look like a Pioneer again. Lots to do now over Christmas.
  6. Thanks Rob and Richard, think i'll try going with the cloth filter. Theres a paper filter further down the line anyway. Richard
  7. Just been going through your thread and loving it. Have you found that re-wrapping the fuel filter with new cloth has worked well? Our Scammell has the same arrangement, and i had found modern paper elements that fit inside and i was going to turn up adaptors to make the modern elements marry up with the seats in the original housing, but after seeing your post wondered if i shouldn’t just retain the original setup. Cheers, Richard
  8. Oh my goodness! I first spoke to Roger quite a few years ago about our Scammell restoration, then last year our local MV group arranged a trip to the REME museum lyneham through Roger and he took us to see the hidden collection and let us clamber over everything - fantastic. What a lovely bloke and really knowledgeable. We’ve definitely lost a leading light in the MV preservation movement. Deepest condolences to the family.
  9. I might be behind the times on this, but was this legislation borne out of an incident or is it just more BS conjured up by people with no not enough to do? Thanks, Richard
  10. Cracking work. I like the shade of OD too, where you getting it from?
  11. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve painted the inside of the cab, fitted it out with some of the bits n pieces and then painted the outside. We’ve got to test run the engine now before refitting the cab.
  12. yeah there does seem to be quite a bit of variation, i can only presume that was over time. Theres also ones in different languages. Think i've got a solution now. Thanks all
  13. Thanks, don't know how i managed to miss that.
  14. Afternoon all, Does anyone know where i can get a new sticker/label for a Pyrene fire extinguisher like the one in the picture? Many thanks, Richard
  15. Morning all, Does anyone know if the Red, Yellow and Blue of the REME badge have standard colour designations under BS381 or an equivalent as they would be painted on a vehicle? Many thanks, Richard
  16. Looking fantastic. Great job Sam. All the best, Richard
  17. You haven't got the neate brake on have you? Are all the brake cables around the diff slack? Good luck, Richard
  18. I've always had good results from https://www.acorn-ind.co.uk/ and https://www.vintagebearings.co.uk/ If the leather is just a flat piece of leather contact these guys https://www.par-group.co.uk/ they cut out new leather seals for my Scammells back hub seals.
  19. Hi Seamus, It’s good that you’ve had the same experience as me, and that you’ve found a solution. Of course the good thing about using cellulose thinners is its dirt cheap. I was talking to another a friend yesterday about painting and he does a lot priming at his place of work because they do blasting and he said he painted some railings once when there was snow on the ground and got a lovely finish. Think my previous idea that the warmer the weather the better was probably wrong. I’ve got a batch of small bits to do for the Scammell so I’ll try the cellulose thinner. Cheers, Richard
  20. Doing a great job, will be nice to see it on the road. Don't want to hijack your thread, perhaps we could do with a painting thread, but i was interested by some peoples comments regarding painting, in particular what Pete Ashby said. I too use the Warpaints paint with 15% sheen after trying numerous others with differing results. I've always used the thinners that Warpaints sell and its always come out quite well, until i was painting the winch for our scammell a couple weeks ago and it came out quite matt. The pro painter chap next door said it could be because it was a particularly hot day. I might have to give using standard cellulose thinners a go. I was recommended to use Max Meyer 4310 thinner. I'm no pro when it comes to painting, what i do know is self taught and i learn by trial and error, so always interested in what others with more experience have to say. Thanks, Richard
  21. Just bumping this to the top in the hope someone might be interested.
  22. Hi, yes its a 6LW. I recommend Gardner Enthusiast in Oxford for piston rings. He gets them made, all the other dealers buy them from him and double the price. Other than that theres Walsh Engineering in Manchester - http://www.gardnerdiesel.co.uk/ But i got most of my bits from Gardner Marine Diesels - https://www.gardnermarine.com/ they are friendly and helpful. Good luck, if you need any more pointers give me a shout i'm not far from you. Richard
  23. Nice work. I've always quite liked these. Have you got a trailer for it? Richard
