  1. I had some quotes from NM, quite expensive, and looking at the photos he sent me the bits didn't look to be of the quality i would expect. Also, if you do contact him, he will ring you . . . . . alot, trying to get you to buy. Richard
  2. That would be brilliant Eddy, will we get to hear the throaty roar of the Meteor too? Richard
  3. Eddy, I say good on ya, nothings impossible, its just a case of how much time, effort and money you want to throw at it. At least when its done you can - "I did that", and thats the bit i like best. I look forward to seeing the fruits of your labour. All the best, Richard
  4. On a related matter Jack, how is the A&E commerative clothing coming on? Richard
  5. Forum member Jimh had to replace all his tubes. His problems with his rad can be found on his thread on the page at this link: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?11476-Another-Pioneer/page16 His tubes came from PAK engineering: http://www.pak-engineering.co.uk/ Hope it helps, Richard
  6. Reckon you're gonna end up stripping it down. If grease won't go in theres got to be some sort of obstruction, which is going to be foriegn to the joint, so the best thing is to get it out and you're not going to do that by forcing grease through. I've just been taking the joint on the back axle of my scammell apart that allows the wheels to oscillate up and down, you would not believe how hard the grease / mud mixture in there was, nothing would have penetrated it. To my mind its always best in instances like this to strip it down, give all bits a good clean in some decent degreaser and put back together with fresh grease. Hope you sort it out ok, Richard
  7. Its looking mighty fine guys. Makes me look forward to A&E 2012 all the more, if that were possible. Richard
  8. This acid dipping sounds interesting, i've never heard of that before. I'm normally a fan of blasting but it is alot of work to mask off bits that don't want blasting, like machined surfaces etc. Is acid dipping expensive, and do you know if there are many operators? Cheers, Richard
  9. Thats really nice, like everyone else it seems i'd like one very much - a useful tool
  10. Good work john. I dearly miss having a telehandler. Unfortunatly i can't put any pictures of the vehicle on the internet where it is stored at the moment, but i will keep you posted with pics of bits i take home to sort out. Just pulling the rad apart at the moment, and hope to get the gearbox home soon. Have put the last coats of paint on the chassis, so all the brake linkage that has been sorted can go back in. We got the second gear case off the axle at the weekend, unfortunatly the bronze bush stayed behind on the diff bit, so got to get that off now. Progress is slow because i live in Bristol during the week, so only have weekends on her. Ha - that would sound better in a different context wouldn't it? Anyway we plug on. Richard
  11. is that hand brake shoe worn or broken like that? Richard
  12. Welcome Mike, always good to find another Scammell nut! Richard
  13. Thats a really nice outfit you have there Olle, looking forward to seeing more of it. Richard
  14. Great pictures Jim, can't wait to take the Scammell to this one. Richard
  15. That looks really good Ian. Can i be cheeky and ask if you have any drawings you could scan and email to me? Cheers, Richard
  16. Had a good weekend on the Scammell, got front hitch bracket and weights bracket on, not easy considering the gap for the hitch bracket was about 3mm narrower than it was itself. Also got the first side gearcase back on the back axle and i was pleased to find it can now be rocked up and down with one hand, a task which required the telehandler to push up and down on it before! Richard
  17. Does anyone know where i can buy a lump of bakelite from? Need i piece roughly 1" x 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" to make a new terminal insulator for the slave socket on the Scammell. Thanks in advance, Richard
  18. find anything interesting in Normandy? Been looking on eBay, theres a guy who goes by the name of ww2quartermaster who does some very nice looking bits like the fuel pump, brake pedal, clutch lever etc, not cheap tho. I'd like to make machined bits like fuel pump myself if i can get hold of one i can take apart, but cast bits like clutch pedal i wouldn't mind buying. Richard
  19. Nice one Nigel, gonna concentrate on getting Scammell done for A&E 2012 for now, but i'll add that one to the list of useful contacts. P.S. - didn't know you had a stutter - " m membership". Cheers, Richard
  20. Ian, Yes definatly, put a pic up here. I'd like to see how other people have done it. Richard
  21. Yeah its a heavy ol lump, damn sure i wouldn't want to have to use it all day. I got a better idea Adrian, if i mount it transversly across the front of the Welbike i can sort out the cats that keep crapping on my drive! Its a project i've been thinking about for quite a while but now that Jack has anounced A&E 2012 i'm going to have to devote all my energies to getting the Scammell done. Most people would probably think 2 years is more than enough, but for anyone who has been following my restoration blog you'll know i don't do things fast. Mixture of having a precise approach to everything and living in Bristol during the week and going back home to work on the vehicles at weekends makes for very slow progress.
  22. Jack, this is the news i've been dying to hear for the last 10 weeks. You've given me a target for getting the Scammell done, i'm really gonna have to pull my finger out now! Richard
  23. Cheers David, will do. See below some pics of the engine as it is at the moment.
  24. Last night i purchased the starting point for my replica Welbike project - a Villiers Junior De-Lux engine - cheers Jason. Now i want to start compiling a list of the bits that are available to buy and those i'm going to make myself. I want to make as much as i can myself, and purchase price of new bits is also going to be a factor. I think most of it won't be too much of a problem, except the wheels in particular the rims. Has anyone here tried this before. I know a group in Holland did but i don't know how to get hold of them. Has anyone got a Welbike in bits at present I could come and take photos and dims from? Cheers, Richard
