  1. He certainly gave it a solid beating around the arena!! Along with his Valentine, scorpion and LP :-D
  2. I don't think you would take it on the road. I don't think it's a golf cart because it's such a pain in the a** to get in and out of!! The steering rack is out of a Morris 1000 or something of that nature. I originally thought this vehicle was something someone had just made, but that fibreglass top section is far too complicated for your average person to just bang out in their shed at home. It has bar tread tyres, not that that helps with identifying it.
  3. It has no engine currently, and I have no idea what the engine was originally. It is 4x4 with sort of geared transfer boxes to transmit drive to all four wheels. Main body is steel with a fibreglass top section.
  4. This little vehicle is sitting in a mates shed. I have no idea what it is, I don't even know if it's military, but hopefully someone can tell me exactly what it is.
  5. one plus one is two, two plus one is three, three plus one is four..... *Claps for Adrian* :-D
  6. It's a new decade and yet you're repetoire of humour still includes sheep jokes.... *shakes head in dissapointment* Half of us started as poms anyway.... Maybe that's why we turned to sheep, 'cos pommy sheilas weren't attractive enough :cool2: *Stands back and awaits witty reply from Adrian* P.S: Speaking of stealing heritage, how many of our Valentines do you have back over there now?
  7. You want to do it in NZ markings. You know you do. Deep down you know it's the only markings that will make the truck scream quality and sophistication. :-D :-D :-D :-D
  8. She'll be right, I'll bash out a piece of corrugated roofing iron to suit :-D
  9. You lucky b*gger, having a floor pan and everything!!
  10. Don't even take 10 years to do this project!!!! Two guys I know restored a Universal Carrier in a little over a year, and before you ask, no they aren't millionaires, just humble mechanics with their heads screwed on the right way. Here's some photos of a friends Loyd Carrier for you to have a shufty at..
  11. Yeah, they aren't too bad. The only problem is lack of traction due to Bar Tread tyres. They climb hills like nobodys business if you can get them to stick to the surface! I would really like a set of SAT or Dunlop triple Traction tyres for the MW I use, but they're like hens teeth in NZ
  12. It's for making your MW go really well through mud!!! :-D
  13. heres a pic of the only WOT1 I know of in New Zealand
  14. I totally agree with you!! Bar treads, which should be renamed "Barely Tread" or "Bare threats" are dangerous, but in some cases they are all you can get. I have locked up all four wheels in the dry at 20mph and skidded in a Bedford MW fitted with Bar Treads. Disgusting. Bring back Triple Tractions or S.A.T style tread patterns any day I say!! I'll take them in 900x16 profile aswell thanks.
  15. The main pitfall of a jeep is that everyone has them. Don't be a lemming. Buy an english 15cwt instead. :-D
  16. Speaking of stupid ideas, free-wheeling hubs are one of them. There really isn't any point in them. If you are talking about from a reducing drag point of view, how much drag is there really? B*gger all if your vehicle is well serviced. :cool2:
  17. A year ago (when I was 16) I got a Bedford MW up an running to take to a MV club rally. This involved full reconditioning of the brake system, motor work, electrical work and some fabrication. I did a lot of the work myself, but still had heaps of help from my father (who originally restored the truck), my dads mate (who now owns the truck) and my friends. I really enjoyed the experience and it increased my love of military vehicles no end. I now write monthly articles for our club magazine entitled "The Young Guns Pages". I gave this idea to the editor and he welcomed it with open arms. So now there is a few pages in our club mag dedicated to stories and pictures of young people getting involved in MV's. Every member that I have talked to loves the stories and are keen to see more "young guns" involved.
  18. Being a ford product, would they not have been Ford blue? That sort of dark blueish colour?
  19. Ahh yes... Flathead V8. There are very few engines I have heard that beat the sound of a flathead. Are you going to run it with the mufflers or just pipes? My vote is for pipes!! Yes I did mean the front armour. Those "slashes" I think may be part of a straightening process for the armour plate, but I have no evidence to back this up. Perhaps Bluebell or Mr Barrell can shed some light on the subject?
  20. Not to rain on the parade, but how are you going to blend that patch into the front armour? The armour on carriers has a sort of "grain" to the surface, so the steel patch you are welding in will not match the armour surrounding it. Your carrier is taking shape nicely though and I look forward to seeing more progress. Keep it up chaps!! :-D
  21. Were the "F" numbers allocated as they rolled out of the factory? If they were then your theory will work. But if they weren't, then the "F" number may have no correspondance at all with the chassis number.
  22. And a dent in the front guard from Tank Day!! The second loyd picture you posted appears to have a rubber front mudguard? I have seen these in photos before. Does anyone know what it indicates about the machine? The museum in Waiouru also has a loyd. Looking at a photo of what I have been told is Motat's Loyd, I don't think the picture you posted is of the same vehicle and it is not Waiourus either.
