  1. There is one of these exact vehicles in the new REME Museum at Lyneham in the UK.
  2. I am being dragged on a family Holiday from April 8th to 15th, staying in Symonds Yat on the Wales/England border. Does anyone here know of any Car shows or Car Boot sales in the Monmouth or Hereford area over that time? It does include Good Friday, so I hope a Car Boot sale or a Classic car show is possible. Many thanks. Robert
  3. The magazines and binders have now gone.
  4. Pete The Public Record Office in Kew have copies of ACIs. Also the Prince Consort Library in Aldershot have them, but are not open to non-Military personnel (I Tried once). Robert PS. If you are going to the Public Record Office, can I come along, as there is an ACI that I would like to read.
  5. I have 5 binders with Classic Military Vehicle magazines in them covering the years 2001/2002, 2003/2004, 2004/2005, 2005/2006 and 2007/2008. It does include the first issue from 2001. These are FREE for collection, but I would like it if you could make a donation to the HMVF site. Also, collection soon would be appreciated. Magazines located in Reading, Berks. PM me if you want them. Robert Davey
  6. I have been talking to BigTyres and they have some 900x13 tyres, but only guaranteed to 45 mph. He did say they were negotiating to get some better tyres, but I think he wanted to get a waiting list first. If anyone wants 900x13 tyres, contacting BigTyres might be a way forward. I need 4 tyres myself for my Ford. Chap there is called Sean.
  7. What was your favourite present under the Christmas tree this year? My best was a ticket from my Wife to see Simon Weston at the Tank Museum in March, with a curry meal before. Anyone else going to this? Also had a Monopoly game from the Tank Museum.

    Babies

My eldest Daughter, Emma, gave birth to twin Boys on Monday evening, and they are called Oliver and Thomas. Mother and babies are in Darent Valley Hospital at the moment, but are doing well. I now have 6 Grandchildren and feel old.
  9. I have seen these 6 stud wheels on a Civilian Morris van at a classic car show a few years ago. The studs are for a hub cap.
  10. How about 900x13 tyres I can drive on at 55mph?
  11. OK, this isn't about Military Vehicles, I just need you knowledgeable people's help to point me in the right direction. I have a Vauxhall Corsa to dispose of. It is 20 years old, in good condition, 2 owners and only 35,000 on the clock. I want it to go to a good home as I think it is a potential future classic car. Can anyone suggest a club or anyone who might be interested? Alternative is ebay or Gumtree. Many thanks.
  12. This should be the same as for my WOT2 and is MT3/7707 It looks like a torch bulb but is 12 volt.
  13. I have a 1943 Ford WOT2H and live in Reading, Berkshire. If you want to call in and take the measurements, please contact me. Robert Davey
  14. The Official 19 set Manual says not to remove the setting screws. The wording is "There are no Medals awarded for getting these screws back in again". Try asking on the 19 set website for help?
  15. I know that the Ford FGT was supplied by Ford of Canada in dismantled form to the UK and reassembled at Dagenham before being issued to the Army. If you watch a Ford film "Switchover" you can see a line of Ford FGT vehicles leaving the Dagenham factory.

    Twins

My eldest Daughter Emma and husband James are expecting Twins on 14th December, and found out today that they are both Boys and will be called Oliver and Thomas. She has 3 daughters already, making 5 Grandchildren in total. They will be old enough to drive my WOT2 and WOA2 to Normandy in 2044 for the 100th anniversary!!!
  17. I have found a 12 volt car bulb made by FoKoCo in England. The F is a Ford type F. I can't find anything about the company, can anyone help with information? Did they make parts for Ford or were they part of Ford?
  18. I have been asked by the family of a National Serviceman to obtain a dark blue Army Beret, dated1950s so with preferably a REME badge, so the man could attend a memorial service correctly dressed. He doesn't have his original beret as it was handed in when he left the Army. If anyone can help me to locate one, the family are happy to pay. The Beret needs to be size 7 and a half. Many thanks for any help you all can give me. Robert Davey
  19. I would like to call in on Friday 17th for a visit and a look round. Do I need any passes or can I just mention your name at the gate, and how do I get in, please? I will be driving a wartime vehicle. Thanks Robert Davey
  20. Can't help with transport but I live in Reading and would like to see the Pioneer. Can you PM me with the location and when it is moving, please, so I could take a few photos? Many thanks.
  21. I know that the REME Museum (now in Lyneham) has copies of these as I dealt with a question when I was there. Could be worth contacting them, but they have new Archive staff now.
  22. As I understand it, Army respirators had a Brown tin up to the start of the war. Then Germany developed a new war gas in 1939 which made every British gas mask obsolete overnight. The Army Brown filter ones were modified with an extra small tin halfway down the flexible pipe and civilian gas masks had an extra filter held on with tape. The Red filter tins were OK for this new gas and most seem to be dated 1940/41. Not sure what the new War Gas was, but I believe it was referred to by the Army as "Arthur Gas".
  23. Some years ago, I read a story in the Daily Telegraph about an armoured jeep, artillery shells and stacks of bullets being found buried in Windsor. As I was Editor of 'Windscreen' at the time, I managed to get in touch with the Policeman mentioned. The truth was, a few rifle bullets had been found after a pond had been drained. I now view Media articles like this with a Very large pinch of salt.
  24. I remember there was a problem some years ago (2007??) with Petrol contaminated with a little diesel sold by a Supermarket chain. It damaged the catalytic converters on the modern cars, and they had to be changed.
  25. Pete Yes, that's the style of solenoid. Question is, do I just connect to the S terminal and leave the I terminal unconnected? Will this damage anything? Thanks Robert
