  1. Yes its the torque..that provides the power. In my last job i used to drive a 1965 Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0 shunting Loco with an 8 cylinder Gardner that only produced 220bhp but with over 1 ton of torque that could pull 1000 tons!!
  2. Cracking Pics Clive..but i dont recognise them! Its probably to same DROPS. Good website you have there..i used to drive Crusaders in my army days..love TM's as well
  3. Id like to see your pic..is it the Scammell S26? It looks like the DROPS is undergoing trials..not the usual trailer that it would tow either! I remember there used to be a huge black and white photo of a Scammell DROPS hanging in the stairwell in Buller Bks Naafi..that was 20 odd years ago! Heres a random pic of some 7 Sqn DROPS..my old unit:)
  4. Heres a pic of an early Scammell DROPS. Not sure of the year but looks to be mid eighties.
  5. Sean you are right.. I paid a visit to my local VOSA testing station today and spoke to the main testing officer, very nice chap, and he confirmed that any vehicle registered before 1st April 1984 is out of scope and does not require under run bars side and rear. So there it is..from the horses mouth so to speak! Andy.
  6. Thanks for all your replies. Id say that clears up any doubt! Just hope vosa see it that way!
  7. I know this is quite a well talked about topic but im still no clearer on the current requirements. Im looking at buying a Bedford TM 8t which is registered and carries an "A" prefix on the reg plate which makes it an 83/84 year. I came across this and wondered if the info in 2a is correct. http://www.transportsfriend.org/road/guards.html Thanks in advance.

  10. Just had a look at the pics in my book The Battle of Long Tan and the webbing is definately 44 pattern and there is a mixture of British and US kit. Also M16's seem to be a popular choice.
  11. I know they used the British SLR. Get a copy of The Battle of Long Tan by Lex McAulay. Its a very good read...with quite a few pics.

  20. You've probably already seen this but for me it would tick all your boxes..I know its a grand more than your budget but if you really want something you have to spend that little bit more!! http://milweb.net/classifieds/large_image.php?ad=49391&cat=4
  21. Put some kero in with your diesel and drain the air from your airtanks to stop the moisture from freezing. Theres not a lot else to do. I did these things to our MJ's when i was in Norway on Ex Hardfall...never had any issues with waxing and we were out in -35 !
