  1. oh i know that but its just more excuses to limit growth development and business...
  2. Okay after a bit of interest I have decided to start a new thread detailing the process we are going through to get to the 1st May open day. List of things to sort, the site needs hardstandings and space for the tentage that we are going to use initially. the main marquee will be purchased in the new year but will be the main hall effectively, with a load of 18X 48 tents lined up for displays etc... i have to relocate all the vehicles plus i have to tidy them up. the volunteers will slowly be allocated work as we get them in Neil the volunteers co-ordinator and document-or of the museum items is starting tomorrow to document everything we have that is museum, from the bombs and shells to the guns the tanks the APC's the tyres and every thing else we have...some items will be sold to build up the kitty going forward. that brings me nicely onto money:- Anyone wishing to make donations will be most welcome to do so, I know unlikely but I have to start asking apparently...anyone wishing to loan vehicles for the displays etc are always welcome, anyone wishing to store their vehicles here is welcome, (some under cover some may be out in the open...all open to discussion at the moment. Any storage cash will go to the museum...direct. So first plan major task is to get documenting things and alongside, get running the important road worthy vehicles for weddings and events to try and generate income... We have a few key volunteers already and that has already helped no end. I now see how important you chaps are. I have to admire and thank everyone who gives up their time to come and help us build this museum. I am hoping it will be my legacy to the country...I hope to set it up such that it never has to worry about enough money coming in to stay in business..we will see, I have a lot to do...
  3. should have the preliminary drawings for the museum building ready this week or next and then its getting all the ridiculous reports done, flood report, bat report tree report traffic report, all just excuses for wasting money...
  4. i think they are testing me to see how serious I am...
  5. seeing the architect tomorrow, hopefully to finalise the buildings, the council are going to issue an enforcement notice for me to remove the items from the field prior to the application going in which is a pain and makes me think I want to move elsewhere with my museum...why give it to an unresponsive and useless council so they can simply screw me around. I am sure I can find a council that will embrace my ideas. i have had the local MP give me a heads up saying he is interested but I do not want to involve him at this stage.
  6. can anyone point me to where I might find the number...
  7. Yes, if you want dictate them to your phone or computer send them as a file and i will write them down and use them in the reference section it is always useful.
  8. Steve, brilliant, I will investigate some of this...do you have any photos of the area/period, i can copy them and return them...
  9. And I have emailed my MP...
  10. So I started the process of generating some public interest in the Museum. I am looking for local knowledge and connections with the period, we have a thriving Polish community and am hoping many of them will have experience of the period that will make it interesting to hear their stories and maybe see pictures that can be used in the museum...memento's memorabilia etc etc. But the process is now in the open.

a question for experienced MMLC Drops drivers

Nick if its o the motorway then there is something wrong, mine is dead smooth on the motorways, the bouncing on the A roads when empty is normal, every truck I have driven has been the same when empty, admittedly only 4 trucks but they were all the same...on motorways though she is dead smooth. if you have a bounce at motorway speeds I would check your tyres first. perhaps you have a bad one...
  12. Just so much negativity from people in the council. They are just ignorant and mindless with little or no hope of ever being anything other than a worthless person coming to peoples homes and telling them you cant do this and you cant do that. luckily this person is not the actual planning department.
  13. i just wonder sometimes why I bother...some people have no vision

a question for experienced MMLC Drops drivers

Nick, I think you are being a bit of a mamby pamby, she is on steel suspension has wopping great tyres and the roads in Surrey are shite...mine bounces like a yoyo without any load on the back, and once you start bouncing your foot bounces on the accelerator and you get even more bounce as you open and close the throttle unintentionally... when driving on A roads try to keep your foot steady, not easy, and no matter how small a bump she will bounce over it and that goes through all the body. when loaded the springs are working a bit better and the bounce is much less noticeable..just to be sure she is nice and smooth on the motorway for instance, foot flat max speed 45-46 mph...

Leyland Daf Army Truck - Mechanic Required

    what needs doing...
  16. thanks David, everyone's input has been very very helpful...
  17. oh yes I think you told me that before...
  18. have you still got the old engine, is it up for grabs...be perfect for the museum...
  19. great thats the job...
  20. Okay I have gone with the Iron Curtain Museum...A History of life during the Cold War. I have applied for a name change...
  21. Wow, David, I had not even thought of that. I am amazed at how people today try to make connections because of a word..I have never heard the nuclear bombs used in Japan referred to as Nuclear Holocaust ....but I get where your thinking. I am not sure where you get the idea that the name would put off the general public but as i have said your views are fascinating and very useful..my aim is to teach people about the period, not to put people off with the wrong name...
  22. thanks Guys the input is brilliant...so much to do...
  23. guys, brilliant, thank you for your input, I feel the name is about to be changed again...I cant have the British Cold war Museum as its too descriptive, they the Americans could not have the The cold war museum today because its too descriptive and limiting, but in 2007 they could..... but I like the Museum of the Cold War. what do you think and also Nuclear Armageddon, a history of why it never happened...i have posted the names on the facebook page to see if I can get feedback...your input is vital and immensely informative and helpful...
  24. yes its an interesting point from you, i need to be aware of how people see it...
  25. yes I think i understand what you mean but in america the word nuclear holocaust was used all the time...and it is from that era that much of the cold war stems...I really wanted it to be as far away as possible and because this is the phrase that was used it fitted nicely....the word itself is not for the sole use of one group of people and it should not be......so I sort of feel duty bound to use it as it was then....
