  1. Austin K9, I saw another one as well but I was cheating, I was looking out of my front window at the time!
  2. Absolutely, hoping to find a nice big white H on the bonnet when I get round to sanding it down
  3. Thank you Richard thats it exactly, the Light Stone is a recent layer and on top of the badge. The body on this truck is not original, its been replaced at some point in the last 20 years. paint layers on the body appear to go Grey primer, DBG, DBG, NATO Green (or similar) then red primer, Light stone nato green. The last 3 layers have beeen put on in civilian ownership I'm fairly sure. The Chasis cab goes Grey primer, DBG, Light Stone, DBG and posibbly Nato green with the same three top layer as the body. PT
  4. Ive been doing a bit of "paint archeology" on the rear body of the K9 and have come up with this Its the good old Lion on a crown as found on the BA flag, but without the crossed swords and on a red over blue horizontally divided background. I know the Lion on a red over blue back ground was UK land forces during WW2 but cant find anything post war. Anyone got any ideas? Working through that badge revealed what appears to be a plain dark blue smaller rectangle or square but without any discenable markings on it, you can just see the bottom of it below the lions front paw, I shall have another go at it later in the week but unfortanately the dark blue has not keyed to the DBG underneath so is tending to flake off rather than sand back. I await you suggestions, (please endeavor to keep them clean and on topic :-D) PT
  5. I'm certainly watching this thread with interest, I have a K9 which was delivered in DBG but then had a very thorough re-paint in Light Stone. As the B card is amongst the lost batch I have little history for her, I'm hoping she might turn up lurking in the background somewhere. PT
  6. Hello Chris, cables from the bloke in the corner with the aircraft instruments? PT Also back from Stoneliegh with far to much, but they were all bargains....honest.
  7. I did some of the restoration work on the Dorchester at Duxford, what do you need to know about it as I may be able to help.
  8. On the news front - heard tonight from Ray in Oz, he has the pallet now to pack up the A/A mounts on so hopefully soon I'll have an idea when they are arriving in the UK for those interested in the other 3. And also heard from the Indian suppliers of window winders - they are sending another package which, I hope to god, should have the right type in. Probably means another £20+ demand from HMRC for VAT due. And I will have to claim the original payment back on the first package. Things progress. Definitely still interested in an AA mount Neil, Ive been trying to find a source for a suitable ball joint clamps to make up some struts so if anyone has any bright ideas please let me know.
  9. I have been testing and inspecting lifting gear for the past 30 years, trust me all modern chain hoist chain has a hardened surface and the speed at which a chain can wear to failure point once this surface is compromised is frightening. PT
  10. Yes it will, but beware it may damage the hardened surface, I certainly wouldn't use them for any recovery work after it had been done. We have a "fleet" of about 1500 chain hoists and when we need to de-rust chains we use a mix of leather off-cuts and nylon blocks as the cleaning medium, still use a cement mixer though;) PT
  11. Does anybody know what the thread size is on the nipple for attaching the vacum advance /retard pipe is on a DM6? If its any help the adaptor on the dizzy is marked 6/11/5 and its fitted to an Austin K9. Thanks PT
  12. I remember a form of perforated black plastic strip which was used with a sort of rivet to bundle cables together. Pop the rivet through the first hole in the strip, wrap the strip round the bundle of cables and pull tight, push the tightest possible hole over the end of the rivet and cut off. We had some lying around in a theatre I worked in in the 70's never really used it, but wish I had some now as its what was used to loom the cables in the back of the K9.
  13. You can't do better than getting a copy of Wireless for the Warrior vol2, covers all the mayor WW2 British sets in some detail with plenty of drawings and photos, it wont answer all the little queries but its a massive help.
  14. No not 88, that was my first thought as well,or any of the other well known sets of the post war period I'm afraid, WS, Larkspur or Clansman as far as I can tell. I'll get a pick as soon as I get back to the truck.
  15. Following on from the success of the 24 Ft mast here is another item I was given recently, this has been discussed on the WS19 group forum without achieving a positive identification. Throat mic and headset, ZA number on throat mic appears to be in the middle of a range of anti gas equipment, inserts in the earphones are standard larkspur era ones. The moulded on connector is a 4 pin female, which is the opposite sex to what would be expected. Relative lengths of the mike and headset leads suggest that this may have been designed to be worn with the lead down the wearers back. Any ideas? PT
  16. Have to agree with Lauren, I haven't been a volunteer at Duxford for nearly 10 years but there were rumors then that the IWM were going to get rid of all the vehicles and concentrate on aircraft, hasn't happened yet....
  17. Thanks again Jarret, might have a go at putting one up this weekend, I'll report back on the fun and games
  18. Yep that's it, where did you find that? and could you get me a copy of the erection instructions please?
  19. Please let me Know Neil, may be interested depending on costs (blown my budget a bit this year apparently according to SWMBO :-D) PT
  20. Yes Jarret, but that's the NSN for the bag unfortunately.
  21. And indeed on close examination of a mast section I can see a faint MA1381 1 marked in black, thanks again chaps.
