restoration New project - Mk 1 Knocker 6x6
armouredfarmer replied to ArtistsRifles's topic in Blogs of MV restorations
Wow they are big, I was going to message you to ask what was happening with these, I'm definitely in the market for one. PT -
Neil, I had a similar problem with my lightweight, fuel gauge reading full as soon as the ignition turned on, I also had a strange earth fault on the off side headlight, gave up on the fuel gauge and went for the headlight fault, cleaned all the eart points and re-terminated all the associated earth cables and low and behold both problems disappeared. Colour comparison for Deep Bronze Greem
armouredfarmer replied to ArtistsRifles's topic in MV Chatter
I dont think either colour looks right to be honest. the left hand picture looks far too brown and the right hand one looks like BS Olive Drab, the colour of larkspur radios. Having said that trying to judge any colour by a photo on a computer is a bit of a risky business as there are so many variables in play. PT -
Libya, Tripolitania, vehicles, barracks 1950s to 1966
armouredfarmer replied to BlueBelle's topic in Research Centre
All the ATU boxes are the same and for Larkspur type ATU. The nearest champ has the earlier No 10 aerial base, usually associated with the 19 set and the others the No 28 which came with the larkspur sets. Functionally the two are more or less interchangable and it is quite possible that the No 10 was used if the champ had been up graded from WS19 to C42. PT -

Where were you Kloud Nine, I was in Blisworth with a similar slippy wet field and the K9 coped well, the gods of wheel spin must have had it in for you;) PT -

question CAV 24v Generator
armouredfarmer replied to scott9643's question in I may be stupid, but......
Part number for the K9 generator is LV6/MT4/CB/G7A24/15, so its close but no for a K9 I think. PT -
Bedford MW avance retard pipe
armouredfarmer replied to Davey089's question in I may be stupid, but......
When I did the A/R pipe on my K9 I couldn't work out the thread so I contacted the distributor doctor http://www.distributordoctor.com/ and he was able to supply all the nuts olives and adapters I needed. PT -

Looks good, where did you source the ironmongery for the stowage box from, I'm trying to get some of those latches for a storage box on the K9? PT -
Done a bit more rubbing down, the other side of the truck produced a very un exciting and predictable Royal Signals flash with unfortunately no lettering in sight. For some reason I failed to take a picture but here's the re-painted version I then went back to the other side to see if I could get anywhere with the marking under the Troops under WO Control marking. Its much smaller, about 1/3rd the size and appears to be white on dark blue. here's the results so far with the last photo with the edges enhanced. The tips of the two pointy bits seem to have traces of black lines suggesting leaves or feathers. Any offers? PT

White on Black? let me have a dimensioned sketch and I'll make you one up. PT

Yep 27ft mast, larkspur era, it does indeed have the vital 'c' spanner, but does it still have its hammer? PT
-
In my experience from changing carbs on the K9 the stamped number refers to the exact set-up of the carb, ie jet sizes etc, and so it would need to be the same as the original or have the jets etc changed. PT

Libya, Tripolitania, vehicles, barracks 1950s to 1966
armouredfarmer replied to BlueBelle's topic in Research Centre
Not sure its a 19 on the end of that, its hard to tell from the quality of the photo but that looks to me like a larkspur ATU at the top of the mast, although it would be very difficult to tune in that position, but it may have been an improvisation to increase the range? Again difficult to be certain but it has the feel of a Larkspur headset on the vehicle commander. The mast may be the interlocking sectional type fitted to the sides of K9s, not sure what its proper designation is. Lizzie, the first light stone layer that was applied to my K9 was definitely gloss, I'm still looking for the "H" though  PT -

Making plans for this years show season and I'm wondering about the safety/feasability of towing a Sankey narrow track behind the Austin K9? A quick measure up shows the K9 hitch is 5 inches higer than the Sankey eye with the trailer level and empty. PT

armouredfarmer replied to BlueBelle's topic in Research Centre
Clive, sorry I missed this reply somehow. Thank you very much, as you say not a great deal of help without the drawings but every bit of information is useful, now if we could track down the drawings that would be another thing altogether. PT -
Libya, Tripolitania, vehicles, barracks 1950s to 1966
armouredfarmer replied to BlueBelle's topic in Research Centre
Hello Clive what do these publications cover? I'm keen to get details of the original interior fit of my K9 wireless light but every photo /illustration for a standard wireless light I have found seems to cover the radio table end only. I would love to get details of the storage/battery lockers I have seen referenced in some of the manuals. PT -
Libya, Tripolitania, vehicles, barracks 1950s to 1966
armouredfarmer replied to BlueBelle's topic in Research Centre
Lizzie, Ive been looking at the picture of the K9 and it seems to me that the marking on the near side is not the blue/white of a signals flash but possibly a red over blue and Lion, I may be imagining it but there is a slightly lighter patch on the top section, so it may be the HQ Egypt & Mediterranean Command flash you suggested for my K9. If the vehicle had been recently transferred it may account for the change in markings on the second photo. PT -
Yes I am, right at the end, Santa Barbara, Monterey and then San Francisco for 5 days. Thanks teletec for the comprhensive info, Ive contacted a range near flagstaff as we are there for three days, yet to hear back though PT

I'm off on a road trip across America next month, someone suggested I should try booking in to a shooting range to enjoy a bit of gun time, anyone any idea how feasible this is? PT
