  1. Only A Company had the Sherman V DD's, B and C were equipped with wading Shermans (Shermans III and V). All landed at Sword Beach near Hermanville La Breche. According to the unit history all landed at about the same time....the DD's were supposed to arrive first, but the lack of speed, meant that they reached the beach at about the same time as the LCT's carrying the wading Shermans. Interesting picture! Alex
  2. Alastair, So, 11 and 15 are not one and the same? http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?19549-Loyd-Carrier/page5 I believe "11" is part of the exhibits of the Belgian "For Freedom museum" in Knokke-Heist. Someone able to confirm? "06" looks like the one previously owned by "MrDodge" as seen on MLU. Is the Belgian CATI you viewed in Brussels the only survivor? Alex
  3. Are you really making us wait untill Christmas before we can see what's in there....
  4. MLU is very much alive and kicking. As Richard said...domain name changed. The father of MLU, Geoff, passed away and the "Children" are now running the show. Are you using your own name or a nickname? Nicknames or a no-go on MLU. Alex
  5. Better watch the news closely these days and you might just see that Cromwell turret in action...welded onto the back of a Toyota Landcruiser:-D Anyone know if any WW2 armour turned up in the fights in Libiya over the past few months, as we have seen previsously in Iraq and Afghanistan?
  6. Very interesting find! Thanks for posting the pictures. Alex
  7. Tony, great work and good to see the cab is coming next. Is that rear axle and rear leaf spring set-up unique to the tractor, or it is the same on the WOT3? Looks quite unusual with the modified chassis rails and angle iron to mount the leaf springs. Very interesting truck! Alex
  8. Excellent work Guys! What a difference from the playground hulk
  9. I hope they weren't too disappointed when they found out it is really a Sexton after they dragged it from the mud.:-D
  10. Thanks for posting these pics! Excellent...I would love to see it in action in the Kangaroo role! Alex
  11. Excellent work and very nice to see the updates on HMVF every once in a while. Alex p.s. The RAM hull has come a long way as well!
  12. Excellent work! And....I agree on the fender....having thought about some dents in my CMP as well....acts to the character!
  13. Excellent work! I admire the time and effort you invested in getting the tank to look as it should. One question though; are you keeping the fender like that? Or do you have plans to get the dents removed in the future? Alex
  14. Tomas, Excellent work....good to see the Portugese wreck is back on it's feet! Alex
  15. Great work again guys! The fenders and brackets look excellent; very tidy. The sign writers job really does the truck Justice, far better than the modern spraypainted fonts you sometimes see on vehicle resto's. 152,936 views of this thread....Besides your dedication and craftsmanship, I also admire the fact there is an update every few days. That's probably the way all of us would like to do our restoration projects.....but few of us have the "drive" to keep the speed up as you do. Alex
  16. Last Battle of the Bulge Anniversary, there was one of those drop containers+Humvee on display at the former Bastogne army barracks....a lot of sandwiched cardboard seems to do the trick and keep the Humvee in one piece. Alex
  17. Supertrack, I have just looked through Google Streetview and I think the Diamond was parked in front of the firm "Piton" on the Route de Dinan in Plancoet....I said 10 years ago, but it might have been 15 already. I will see if I can find the pictures I took at the time. Alex
  18. Quimper? I drove through Quimper last summer....allthough it looked more like autumn....rain and wind and no MV's. I remember seeing an open cab Diamond T (cab-chassis only) in Plancoet about ten years ago. Supertrack, you don't happen to know if that one survived? Alex
  19. And what about the louvres on the cab/bonnet sides? There seems to be two large holes on this example in stead of a single row of louvres....would that be early or late? Alex
  20. I agree with Adrian; Mr. Leloup is a good English speaker and very open to chat about vehicles and his collection. The M4A1 (76), formerly on display at the roundabout, was in front of the museum close to the Sexton when I visited the museum in 2008 as also mentioned by others in this thread. Alex
  21. Excellent work again guys...both on the woodwork and the steering wheel. The powerfile is a handy tool...I use it a lot to clean up welds (yes...pigeon poo) and or to grind in hard to reach area's. Haven't had any terminal disasters with the Powerfile yet, but did have to change the belt numurous times after working to hard on grinding sharp edges....with the belt splitting and slapping all over the place as a result. Alex
  22. Roy, Have you checked Milweb? I think there were two projects for sale in Holland. Alex
  23. My thoughts exactly! A Grizzly as a 1944 vet? I didn't know it was swapped for a RAM though; interesting to read the history. Anyway....at least this "Sherman" came back after a trip abroad....I guess the Italian weather is better that the rain in the UK
  24. Alistair, Also check this thread on MLU to further push you into buying that trailer http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/showthread.php?p=113025 and to get a sneak peek of a Loyd with Mortar trailer on a pic taken in Tilburg, The Netherlands Alex
