Nearby were some turretless ones including one with the reg 00 HA 06 not seen that series before.

"Starlight/IWS. Eyepieces for both US and UK versions are now not available until 1973. UK eyepieces can be used on US sights by the use of an adapter ring devised by 9 MAG, of which 120 have been made. The position is serious as eyepieces are normally replaced at about 30 per month. The possibility of local manufacture in N Ireland is being investigated, but if no eyepieces are forthcoming the instruments must be returned to base as BLR."

Lee this is the only NI Fox pic I have. It appeared in Soldier caption is 2 RTR on patrol in Castlederg Sept 1979

I have a lot of REME SITREPS 1969-76 all the usual vehicles mentioned but no mention of Fox. I have 2 books on the history of RTR. Forty's book is a bit thin on NI. Macksey's book has a NI chapter no mention of Fox, lots of other vehicles mentioned. Both use that picture of 2 RTR Ferret marked Womble 2 with appropriate picture.

BTW the VRN is 11 FD 27, yours?

I have been a witness to displays of not just incessant but incandescent farting, I won't lower the tone with a link but YouTube has 444 clips of this activity with varying degrees of success :nono:

And it gets louder as the night goes on, usually terminated by aggro, someone being sick or incessant giggling & falling over. (Although I have been involved in the last three in my earlier years) A sort live version of this :dunno: The advantage of here if its a topic that is of no interest you just ignore it. But at a show one needs to choose one's neighbours carefully :whistle:

When I'm in the pig it's not so bad I can move easily but if its the Cypher Trailer with Hornet or Wolf its a case of hitching up & all that manoevering. Although big shows you tend to have to stay put. Generators are a pain. At shows I always sleep with earplugs, the solid waxy type. Because during the night there will be discos/radios/Glen miller, drunken pratteries, arguements, dogs barking, late night philosphers, generators, door slammers, domestics, early risers, bugle players etc. I CAN cope with all that at night because of the ear plugs. But sitting around my vehicle all day with earplugs because of a generator is not so good :dunno:

Thats true Clive.....not sure of the attendance of Kemble but Tankfest had 7000.

Kemble had sunshine, BUT it also had someone near me who insisted on running his vehicle continuously to charge his battery to run his fridge to keep his milk cool. A rather lavish waste of fuel & he seemed oblivious to hints. So what do you do in a crowded site? I packed up sunday morning & came home. But all of my time at GDSF was spent listening to my neighbours generator running throughout the day. My mistake was accept a nice cool beer, then its difficult to say anything. But people are not so much deliberately selfish but unthinking :dunno:

Would like to get to the Bovington tankfest but it clashes with a more local show which we support as a group - Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey.

Maybe one day if they move the date.

At the march at the begining, it always fascinates me as the Foden water cannon is brought in then covers everyone including film crews in water, a husky voice bellows "Brilliant guv"

When playing it runs on Windows Media Player, I can find no way to save it other than a link & no way to snap a frame. I have PowerPlay which allows frames but can't get it to run the clip, WMP takes over. Deliberate I suppose?

Yes 22BK31 in what I call the "Shoot the priest scene" That one that I have photo of in the camera in from of the TV & video mode.

That series was good in that generally it is in order & dates are defined. I wish I had kept the complete programmes on tape to retain the context. Then when I copy to DVD I would have avoided going through a degradation stage of a second video.

The quality of youtube is poor, generally ok at that size picture, so the DVDs would be of interest. But is it possibly to save youtube clips? I can save google videos ok. But youtube if it goes to my favourites I think it just saving the link, so I thought I could post it to myself! But they mean post as in post to a blog. Is there a way to save?

A couple of years ago BBC4 ran the Battle of the Bogside & I have a good copy of this still on the first video, I have captured quite a few pics. The annoying thing is that the most photoed RUC pig was 3071EZ. Unfortunately of the 10 RUC FV1609s one got written off & was replaced with an Army FV1611. It had some RUC embellishments but is not the same as a proper FV1609. But it was invariable always at the front of a riot & therefore gets more pics of it. Whether that was because it was a more reliable vehicle or maybe they didn't like it so it got pushed to the front! See what I mean, paint & burning petrol. The give away as a FV1611 & not a FV1609 is the rail on the roof (for the canvas in Army service), bridge plate, rectangular not oval light guards, wipers fixed to vehicle - on FV1609 the wiper motors are fitted into the windows!

OK Lee, I was hoping you had a little pile of rare photos of pigs! I've looked at the other DVDs, quite tempting. But I don't know what I might have got on tape already. For 20 years I have tried to record NI programmes, then transfer the vehicle bits over to a second recorder which of course loses some quality.

What I do now is record to a hard drive recorder. Chop out the non vehicle bits, then put them on a disc, then on to the computer. For Christmas I bought myself Magix Movie edit pro 11 & the accompanying literature is appalling in is ambiguity, contradictions & poor help. But by fiddling with buttons & seeing what happens & what doesn't, I am getting there.

What I am doing is arranging clips chronologically, its amazing how programme makers cheat! Often vehicle clips are a few seconds sandwiched between interviews. So I can string the sequences together.

Its very useful to then make jpgs of interesting shots. Before the HDD recorder I had to freeze frame the video player & take a photo of the TV screen!

I expect those DVDs will be around for a while yet, as I am sure it will be a regular bit of business for that seller.

So Lee I assume that is mid 1970s? As these wings are early mesh type, the EMER for them was issued in 1976 & the EMER for the barricade ram was issued 1975. Although I can't see the wing mirrors they do not seem to have migrated to the front of the bonnet, which happened in 1977.

In the photo there is a piece of wood with aluminium paint mounted on the offside wing to balance the VRN plate on the near side. This predates the dayglow red strips & note the ram is not covered with red paint each end that private owners love to do.

I note that the rear armour, which is in two sheets, has not been folded down (or not fitted) as you can see the soldiers feet. He probably feels safe at the rear but his feet are unprotected.

Its interesting that the Rovers are all facing in the opposite direction.

Can you read the VRN on the original? Then I can see what I've got on this vehicle.

I know someone who might be. What is its mil reg no, I can work out the vehicle type from that & some of its history. Is it as came out of service or has been modified eg breakdown truck, off-roaders embellishments. Is it complete, has the body rotted out, when did it run last? PM me if you want.

The Humber 1-Ton Trucks look common enough but they were extremely rare. These were FV1622 Missile Test vehicles for towing a trailer to test Malkara missiles. These 10 Humbers were struck off in 1970 & being only a few years old would have been in good condition. They had compressors fitted in the back for the air needed to test the gyros & wing actuators on the missiles. The story goes that they were stripped of their compressors which were sold for charging up air bottles for divers.

There were two pigs there that rotted quite badly in the sea air. I know as I have one of the rear doors from one. The fittings on it looked as if they had been down with the Mary Rose.

Does anyone have any more Pounds pictures? I have a couple more somewhere.
