  1. They may have changed the name. But the Show Report says it was a "WWII Military Vehicle show".
  2. Intriguing concept, but one word in your suggestion does occur in the answer!
  3. Good idea, see what you mean but no.
  4. No it isn't, well spotted Neil. I did that to try to stop Richard guessing it in one. This is the correct way round:
  5. I thought people might feel it had a similarity to the Dhondy Fly-Proof Latrine
  6. Well let's see if this one runs for a bit longer:
  7. Yes well of course we all now know who asked me for another object, just a chance to impress all. yes damn it you are right it is a 1936 version of Stereoscope, Topographical, ZD4 But can you get Object 13?
  8. Somebody actually asked for another mystery object, so here it is:
  9. See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/6269807.stm Obviously bad news for the local economy & good news for the people in the Welsh marginal seat (what a coincidence) where training is to be centralised. I think something has been missed from a tactical radio training point of view. Now I know that you can do satellite coms training anywhere & classrooms can be anywhere. But having been a licensed radio amateur since 1964 spending some ten years in Bristol communicating with Welsh amateurs & operating from within south Wales itself. Nobody could deny it is an appallingly difficult place to communicate within & to the outside world. Now I know there has to be training in mountainous areas but for general day to day tactical radio training the move from Dorset which represents a good selection of European countryside to mountainous Wales doesn't seem to be the brightest of ideas. :embarassed: I just have to wonder if anyone has actually given that the slightest thought? I doubt it very much as having worked as a contractor for a govt dept most decisions are taken by people who have very little grasp of what anything is about at a grass roots level. SEME Bordon is to go so goodness know what will happen to the historic vehicle collection. I hope it doesn't follow the example of the Defence Storage & Distribution Centre Llangennach which is to close this year & in preparation have now destroyed all their archive material. :dunno:
  10. I took it from a copy of Visor Service News, although I don't have a date. It reads: "The scene after the collision in Duncairn Gardens area of Belfast. A van drove around a Security Forces road block in Belfast earlier this week and narrowly missed a soldier who had tried to flag down the van to warn the occupants of th danger of a bomb incident in Duncairn Gardens. The van was then involved in a head-on collision with a one ton armoured RCT Humber. On hand at the incident was the medical crew of 40 Field Regiment Royal Artillery. The doctor and his team gave immediate first aid to two men from the van, one of whom appeared to have serious head and facial injuries. A civilian ambulance was called and took the men to the Royal Victoria Hospital."
  11. As you can see this EOD Pig has been damaged by a van that drove into it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/12BK96-3.jpg[/img]
  12. Actually Paul that was a cunning plan. I love the banana especially that retarded smile it gives me, it gives it such a good feeling to see it dancing specially for me & is not irritating in the slightest & makes me very proud to admire it. In point of fact it was really another smiley which I hate, but you all fell for it. And of course we don't really know what went on in your tunnels we only have the official reports to go by which have been circulated to reasure wives, girl friends & civil partners.
  13. I would agree on the earlier date as implementation inevitably lags behind documentation. The use of IRR paints is fully descibed in Materiel Regulations for the Army Vol.2, Pamphlet No.3 Painting of Army Vehicles, Aircraft & Equipment. December 1980. It superceded the previous version of 1975 which makes no mention of IRR paints. What I never knew was whether an ammendment had been issued between these dates, presumably not, given what AFTM has said. (Jerry I'll have you dancing with bananas when I see you next).

    dvla - joy!

That is an excellent idea. It always seems so vague & unrecorded. But having it stamped is a good thing. But they never keep it, its just handed back to me.

    dvla - joy!

I have been working my way through a pile of V112G/R & if challenged say it is under regulation 30 I am claiming exemption. It always seemed curious that the basis of the exemption was not required on the declaration. The form was revised last year to what seems to be the same wording & is available as a download: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/forms/v112g.pdf It seems that a permanent exemption cannot be recognised as the use may change. In regulation 30 it is used unladen and any trailer is unladen. Some might say is there any point taking a trailer to a show that is unladen? Although I think trailers a poorly recognised bit of MV history & would prefer to take a picture of an empty one!
  16. For the price of a hamburger, today I bought the Clothing Regulations 1951. It transpires that it is a compendium of nine seperate publications from 1951-61. I have never seen this before in an Army publication & I wonder what determined its inclusion. There is a very creepily worded royal warrant by someone who was to contribute to bringing the government down. For those youngsters, which is probably most of you, do a google on that name + scandal. You will see the year of his initial indiscretion is the year of the warrant. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/Clothing1.jpg[/img] For those of you who like to look at trivia, work your way down this list. 110 + 50 pairs per 1000 women hmm only half the loses of the men actually as they have three types of these. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/Clothing2.jpg[/img]
  17. Or what about a police one? These were leased from the War Office for £60 per month. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/11ZA25s.jpg[/img]
  18. I knew I would find it eventually. Bovy 1994, got another pic in 1991. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/82BA5201s.jpg[/img]
  19. Chassis no.6559, Body made by Park Royal Co. no.37509, listed just as Home Office stock
  20. They are around, there was one at Kemble. But at most shows you will often see one in the Commercial section. Although there is some legitimacy to being in a MV section given that many will have been in military service for a short while. I have some pictures of Yellow Godesses. Used in NI so their crews are less likely to be attacked in case they are mistaken for an Army vehicle. But of course in a firemans strike who uses the Godesses! Jack at Purbeck did you notice there was an ex Police Mobile Column Gipsy all part of CD era. Also of the same era I spotted an ex-RUC Series I Rover although the owner was unaware of its origins. So interesting stuff out there.
  21. For those interested in Godesses & RLs etc there is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rsoles/ I should explain that as being the Bedford R series Owners Lovers Enthusiasts Society
  22. SYH 223 was chassis no. 21789 & issued to Tyne & Wear Brigade Nov.1977
  23. From the factory it would have been Rovers version of high gloss DBG, disruptive started appearing 68 ish. Then NATO Green IRR but I have never been able to define when. I have been hoping to find some COSAs H1 of that era & see when it pops up. I can cope with those smileys there is one animated one which really is irratating, but I know you lot, I will get sent messages plastered with it. So I'll keep that one a secret.
