  1. Nope, thats the first answer I have had with a picture :-D
  2. Yes, this is very special sort of sinker. It is the less known about other end of a sea mine & is its anchor. The sinker once sunk pays out the steel cable to the prescribed length retaining the mine at its alloted depth. Many people think that mines just bob around in the sea not realising the works that keep it in place & out of sight. In manufacture the sinkers travel along the production line on their wheels. With the mine attached the Assembly is launched from a similar railway track on the back of a mine layer.
  3. Had you any particular condition in mind?
  4. Nope not needed conscription was already in place!
  5. What else! Who's going to explain what a sinker is?
  6. Nope, the blue jackets were not always needed on every journey. Perhaps more were needed on the return journies :naughty:
  7. Not quite sure what is being infered here but attempting that with any of the crew or an animal was a 10 year sentence. Whereas the possesion of forged bank notes was 14 years.
  8. Nope. This is 1953, although the death penalty still existed, 6 executions would have been a bit excessive for one voyage.
  9. Yes well done Richard, was it the anagram or the DMC that gave it away?
  10. Two clues: A677 & A679 these are the DMCs If you do crosswords think of "Sir Ken"
  11. Nope, it is something that Borat's country might have done.
  12. Clues has something to do with: Queens Regulations, Paragraph 688 Army Act, Section 11
  13. Interesting thought, all those extra hankies! But no
  14. Ah well I'm not sure that it's something to be proud of! It shows what idle finders & an internet connection will do when you have retired & it's too cold or wet to go & work on a vehicle. Tonight's project is to remove Christmas cake from the keyboard that has crept in there today exacerbated with cat dribble. I have a cat that often sits on my lap & when contended dribbles furiously. It is prone to stroll over the keyboards so not everything you read has been $6b 9kjn , by me.
  15. Nope. One would hope these blue jackets would not be issued. But Troop Ships were required to carry 6 of these blue jackets, 6 trousers surge unlined, 25 towels & 25 handkerchiefs if needed.
  16. Nope, in fact it might sound rather surprising.
  17. That may be so, but there was a specific group of individuals that would be required to be so dressed on a Troop Ship.
  18. Going into the Great Dorset Steam Fair vehicles were being checked by Customs & Excise for red diesel. I wasn't stopped as I think the Hornet looked too much of a challenge.
