  1. the truck from when i bought it picture from old owner BV202 My Mill from before i started using it a couple months ago before that i borrowed. I have been working on the BV202 for over 30 hours because it would not work properly, the engine was getting to much gasoline my nose, ears and eyes told me. it would run for about 10 minutes and would then not start, at all! and it would do this again and again, as soon as it was completely warm it would not run. so i started with the carbs feeling that something was wrong with the mixture, after adjusting the carbs for completely lean then car would run a little longer before again not wanting to run. so i removed the carbs and found very worn throttle shafts and holes. this should though give a to lean mixture and not to rich. but i bought some carbs that was in perfect condition and mounted those, the car did the same. so i adjusted the valves suspecting some kind off solution from doing that not sure what but i was just guessing at this point, the carbs had been completely adjusted according the the 10cm thick workshop manual i have for the BV202, but it was the same problem still. I noticed that the ignition coil was getting very hot, so i suspected a faulty coil, bought NOS replacement, but unfortunately the same problem persisted. so i removed the distributor, checked adjusted and lubricated, set points (dwell), mounted in the engine, adjusted timing but the problem persisted, the engine did though run better than ever after all these adjustments but it still quit after about 10-15 minuts of running, smelling like it was running way to rich with all adjustments set to the leanest, with the leanest needles mounted ect. everything i could adjust and set or check was done i was baffled, i had also checked the fuel pump and lines tank ect. not finding any problems also cleaning the tank and pouring new fresh gasoline in the tank. Only using left because its been replaced with the plastic version, and the other one is a bit rusted inside. i had also bought NOS spark plugs and changed those. fiddled a bit around with the engine yesterday (all these things i have done over a 6 month period when i had some spare time from work i am self employed in own business) trying to adjust the carbs yet another time, with the engine running i lifted the big pistons in the SU carbs, and saw a very large spray of gasoline spraying up from the needle system, thinking why is fuel spraing out that thing, so i removed the carburetor floats and checked adjustment, everything was fine and perfect, the valves still closed correctly, as i had checked a couple of times already and the level was correct and the carbs are not very sensitive to the fuel level in the carburetor. suddenly i got the correct idea, the carb float chamber is vented via a tube and led to the outside of the engine bay (to the right) to prevent a dangerous gasoline fire from a stuck float filling op the little amphibious vehicle, the metal part that went through the side of the BV202 was completely blocked, no flow at all preventing proper venting of the float chamber causing full fuel pump to affect the main jet so fuel would spray into the carb, causing a over rich mixture, simply because air was filling the top of the float chamber and keeping the float down, the new fuel was then sprayed into the engine via the main jet. i took off the hose from the stud in the side that was blocked and instantly the engine was running better and very soon it was running very lean causing it to stop, so i adjusted the carb to standard adjustments, drilled out the float chamber vent stud in the side of the engine bay and mounted the hose, it started, and was running good, adjusted the carburator correctly, getting an extremely good running engine, no more smoke and no (rich mixture) smell. WOW took it for an hours drive on a field and in some wet areas. finaly it ran and started every time. this was yesterday, today i put on a small fuel filter (with glass see through) on the vent so dust and other stuff does not get into the float chamber. it runs better than i ever heard a bv202 run. p.s. today i read in the service manual that the ignition coil gets 24v durring cranking, and 12v durring normal running. so thats why it was getting hot, during all my cranking trying to start a engine that was chocked in fuel it was getting 24 volts no wonder it was hot. so i have an extra ignition coil.
  2. Hi my name is Erik and I'm from Denmark. I bought a man kat 1 4x4 1978 a 461 model yesterday and looking for a service or user manual I was lead to this forum. I already own a bv202 that is teasing me a bit with the engine but I recon it wil soon be up and running. I am a self trained mechanic and I have done everything from restoring a automatic transmission to paint stripping a car for a full restoration. I do everything myself except upholstery and cabriolet cloth. I have a mil and lathe so I can make anything I can't buy.
