  1. Greetings all. Hopefully the MODS will allow me to almost duplicate this quick request here. Would anyone happen to own or know the whereabouts of either an FV432 or Saxon with Peak turret.........preferably in the Kent or Sussex area please? (if not Kent / Sussex then anywhere considered) Or failing that know of anyone taking either of same to War & Peace perhaps? Cheers.......Howard @ KFS

  3. Top job, she looks very straight & like she just rolled off the production line. H
  4. Apparently, (if I understood the text on the information board correctly) the Sunderland flying boat at Duxford used to be a floating night club ! Rock'n'roll !! H
  5. For what its worth, in my humble experience.......if you're going to strip it then pay particular attention to the valves & valve seats....I've seen badly burned out & split inlet & exhaust valves on B40s & B80s. Have also known valves stick open causing misfiring with some impressive backfiring through the air cleaners & detonation in the exhaust manifold. Seen a hole through a piston once, & blown head gaskets between cylinders as mentioned above. Leaky fuel pump diaphragms (spelling) also not uncommon. Rarely does the bottom end give trouble (in my experience that is) always seems to be valve trouble if anything. H
  6. Hello Chaps,:-D Many thanks for everyones answers, much appreciated as ever. Clive has put me right on some of the terminolgy for the vehicle itself & for what I incorrectly referred to as "Makrolon" panels. (Learn something new every day:cool2:) Wally, thanks for confirming there were spall liners (something else new to me) kits for it. Will see if I can track down a parts list for it, sounds a useful doc to have. Or may have pester you & Clive for photocopies. :whistle:Thanks also for confirming it was the 500 Non Turbo. Richard, put like that it makes perfect sense. If Bedford were deceased then GKN had to source another engine. Cheers for the pic Hen Hunter. Certainly appears to have padding above the side entry door. Good start. Any more to offer....I'm all ears lads. Cheers for now......Howard.
  7. Hi Clive, I'll drop you an e mail just to clarify some terminology to start with.......but please, if anyone else has info on the 'padding-v-no padding' thing I'd be interested on views & opinions. (I confess its the first time I've ever heard the term 'spall liners') Cheers all please keep it coming. Thanks. H
  8. Thanks R100......we actually got the 1/24th gun kit finished & released some time ago now.....but that is a lovely rig you've got there never the less. Nice one. H
  9. Af,noon all. Anyone out there familiar with Saxon please? Two questions please..... We`re talking APC version here, in British army use, rather than the IS Patrol version. 1) Now, I know the Patrol version has Makrolon internal anti scab panels fitted.....& I'm told the APC version did'nt. I'm also told the APC version had bare steel walls internally & did not have any of the padding that you might find inside Saracen or FV432. Can anyone confirm that this is correct please....no padding or Makrolon in the troop carrier ? 2) Secondly, is it correct that only the Patrol version had the Cummins engine fitted & that all troop carriers just had the Bedford 500 normally aspirated (no turbo)? Thanks in advance for any input. Cheers Gents. H
  10. Evening all, not posted for a while as we've been busily beavering away on some new kits. Since the introduction of the FV432 last year, (last time I posted) we've now released;- L118 105mm Light Gun. This kit contains several optional parts for early & mid production guns & offers both towing positions, high angle or direct fire elevations. The M40 106mm Recoilless Rifle. Although a dedicated Champ conversion kit it does also fit the Lightweight & the various 1/24th Jeep kits on the market. Before anyone asks...the ammo supplied IS of the perforated case type, CAD drawn & rapid prototyped with the right number of holes:cool2: The 120mm L6 Wombat. This kit comes with ammo & ammo cases & a mounting kit for the Lightweight. The L1/L4/L7 BAT Series. This is a multi kit with optional parts to build either BAT, Mobat or Conbat. Ammo & ammo cases are included as are the Bren ranging gun for the Mobat & the M8 spotting rifle for the Conbat. The master patterns for the 6x6 Militant Mk1 are completed & awaiting a production slot & the Saxon APC is now also just getting underway. Please feel free to browse the pics & additional info on http://www.kitformservices.com (Military Range & scroll down) Best regs all.......Howard @ KFS
  11. I personally think the idea of having a personalised piece of art, of this standard, depicting your own vehicle is a superb idea. When I joined up in the early 70s a fellow recruit (handy with a pencil) did a pencil sketch of my Champ (which I owned at the time & had learned to drive in & passed my driving test in). That sketch went to Northern Ireland with me....much mickey taking from the Troop who mostly had pics of Debbie Harry over the bed while I had a pencil sketch of a Champ. The drawing eventually wore out after many moves. Although not an MV owner now, I'd certainly buy something like this (Champ obviously, with my civy reg EFD806K) & have it framed. Or even the Leyland Martian & Cent ARV I worked (48BM14 & 03ZR59). I think its an outstanding idea. H
  12. I stand corrected on the tyres Rolf.......now that you remind me I think I remember the conversation we had about the Stalwart tyres. :red: Howard.
  13. Rolf is a man after me own heart. You should see some of the other stuff he's built....just amazing...& all in a 'proper scale' too (1/24th) I believe I supplied the tyres for the Mack (ex KFS Stalwart 14.00 x 20) More pics please Rolf:bow: Howard @ KFS
  14. Yep, £3k, must be in VERY good condition. Actually I just bought the £40.00 version from Models & Hobbies & thats the cheapest copy I've seen around for a while:readbook::readbook: Thanks again on the heads up where to find a pic. Howard @ KFS
  15. Thanks for the tip on that.......I've been after a copy at a sensible price for a while but they appear to be either silly money or like gold dust. BUT...I think my pattern maker has a copy & will chase that up. Cheers......Howard @ KFS
  16. Good afternoon all, Plans to create the next in the Classic British Series of 1/24th kits have changed a little. After some thought, I have decided to go for a 6x6 Gun Tractor rather than a cargo version. (Being as I already have the 5.5" to accompany it) This is scheduled to get properly underway in November. Having spent the day with Simon Daymond in Leeds (thanks again Simon) I now have about 90% of the info I need...but;- Would anyone have any pictures please of the original or restored seating arrangement in a gun tractor body...i.e. the large stowage box & its seating arrangment along with the individual rear seats ? The next thing is, would anyone have any pictures or scans from a manual of the auxilliary gearbox, in particular the front face with the winch drive ? Cheers in advance, all help much appreciated. Best regs.......Howard @ KFS kfs1@btinternet.com
  17. Hello again Chaps, One last request for assistance with the Mk1 Militant 6x6 Cargo model project for our 'Classic British' series. Had a very kind offer from a member in Leeds (Simon) to photograph & measure his vehicle.....but before I take that up, is there anyone closer to Boston Lincs with a Mk1 Milly 6x6 cargo that I can examine please ? Need to do this before the days get too short (& cold). All help much appreciated. Thanks all. Howard @ KFS
  18. I've seen this chap & his Meteor at the Carrington show, very impressive (& loud), & it started a lot easier on that occasion. It drew a sizable crowd ! The hat went round after the shut down as 'the petrol fund'. Had to smile when he gave it a quick sip of petrol down one carb as an encouragment to start. I suppose thats the equivalent of 4 pumps on the pedal prior to hitting the button when its actually in a Cent. H
  19. I just noticed that the gun being fired in the photograph above is not a Wombat at all but a 106mm recoilless rifle, note the shape of the breach, the breach release lever & no venturi. H
  20. Pimped & Lowered.......... Funny you should say that........I always fancied a 432 with chromed road wheels & sprockets, metallic paint job, plexi glass dome over the mortar hatch, cocktail cabinet, quad stereo, leopard skin interior, water bed & wide screen TV.:nut: No ? just me then:blush: (too much Starsky & Hutch maybe ?):cool2: H
  21. Also, curiously.....the mod plate appears to say Mk2 (I could be wrong) & yet it is fitted with beehives which indicates a Mk3. Granted a Mk3 is just a Mk2 with RFC conversion.....just wondered about the plate. H
  22. In terms of markings for NI....in my experience, no gegimental markings of any sort were ever used on vehicles on IS tours. I've only ever seen the VRN (obviously) & ATO/Felix markings used. Certainly never the Union flag displayed in NI ops. Also in BAOR by 1972 makings were getting ever smaller & fewer of. Gone were the large colourful 6" square Div Signs QOH vehicles in Hohne, 1972 for example carried only;- a black white patch about 6" x 2" bearing the numerals 7/2 a black patch with a fern leaf also about 6" x 2" a blue patch with the white horse of Hannover about 4" x 2" (B vehicles only) & the usual union flag Best regs.....H
  23. Hi Simon, Cheers for the reply. Many many thanks for the offer. I just realised as I read your post, I made a silly a%se typing error in the original post.....its a 6x6 Cargo I'm after photographing, not a 6x4. I must keep taking the tablets:nut: Now feeling a pillock  so I'll start a fresh thread to attract 6x6 owners. Will keep you in mind anyway though as I see you have a 6x6 there as well :cool2:. Thanks again, H
  24. Hi Jeff, Cheers for the offer, appreciated. Slightly more longer term, but yes is the short answer. Already have the cab sorted as we did a civy Crusader 'transkit' with military conversion bits included some time ago. Had planned to do the 65 tonne tractor first & then spin off into the wrecker as a conversion kit for the tractor.:thanx: Coventry is not so bad as I'm often in the Midlands.....I'm a Dudleyite. Will drop you a PM for further info. Now any offers of a Militant photo shoot any one ?:help: Howard @ KFS
