I think he means the wire between points and coil. Also check the connectors for corrosion. Other thing i once had, dry rotor bushes in the starter motor so it pulls more power. After oling the car started well again. Good luck.

This type of windings can be repaired by stucking the ends in very small silver tubes and pinch them. It's the kind of connectors that they used in telephone connections in the past.

The bodyshop that repaired my car, cleaned it like new. (it is parked under trees so lots of green on it everywhere.) They used a product called Cartec. It dissolves organic matter. They spray it on and a few minutes later it is washed with warm water. Ready. I don't know it they did pressure wash it.

To get brass clean without scratching it. Put it in vinigar with a few spoons of salt mixed in. It will come out like red copper but after a little swipe it looks like new.

I don't think it's a pull switch but a tumble switch dip and beam. I have seen them somewhere before but where...

I would say cork for the float. Balsa is to soft it will damage very fast. And don't know if balsa doens't absorb water.

The other two cars might be Opel Admiral the large Opel with V8 engine. Or a very late Opel Kapitän 6 cylinder.

Traficators are levers with a lamp on it that flap open. Indicators are blinking lamps.
