  1. Hi I know we are a little out of your way, in Suffolk, but we offer it if you cannot find anyone closer. There are a couple of Travelodges close by. Thanks Antony http://www.totaldriving.net/other/h-tracked-vehicle-training/
  2. Hi John Just saw you post. Ordered one from RS yesterday and it came this morning. Thanks Antony
  3. Hi Sorry if I am a bit dense on this one, do you mean the little locating tag is off slightly? If so, I am sure I can take apart and turn. Failing that, on the plug I could widen the slot slightly without chance of it being 90 degrees out. Once it is in, am doubt I will be unplugging it each time I park up. Thanks Antony
  4. Hi John the operation manual says that is what or is for. If it does too much I could always get an led beacon. Thanks Iain, looks like you and just up the road from me. Antony
  5. Evening Does anyone know where I might get a plug to fit this socket? It is about an inch across. Need to get a plug to fit a flashing beacon to my Shielder. Thanks Antony
  6. Hi Thanks for the replies. Yes, £100+vat gets you the lead acid version. I have found somewhere that do new Hawker, £280+vat each. 6-8 week delivery - so guess they are coming from the states. Think I will invest in a charger. I see Withams have some batteries in their auction at the moment but obviously don't know the condition. Cheers
  7. Morning all I have 4 of these batteries on my Shielder. The primary 2 were fine when I got it, fine the next weekend. Didn't get used for about a fortnight and were flat. Can start off the secondary set fine, but at no point, no matter how long it is run for do the primary set seem to have any charge in them. Anyone give me any guidance on this? Are they cream crackered or can I salvage them some how? Thanks Antony
  8. Diana I am very surprised that you have posted, certainly after the PMs that you have sent me - would you say the same things in a public that you would in a PM? If someone wishes to pass judgement on someone else wanting bend/break the rules then surely they must be whiter than white themselves. Otherwise they are surely hypocritical. Anyway, tape measure worked well and all is good. Now, back to the plot, as they say. My original post was asking for advise on filling boxes in on the V55 (not discussing C&U) and someone has been good enough to do that. Have a good weekend people!
  9. You are such a positive bunch of souls! As I have said we all know the rules and I fully understand it is down to me. I am sure that you are all law abiding people who have never wandered a few MPH over the speed limit etc, so I guess I can't argue with you. Now, down to the Shielder with the tape measure. Antony
  10. I am so glad you are here! As I said, just for information - that is from the Jane's guide. Do you have nothing better to do than be this unhelpful? Least I can give a definitive answer tomorrow.
  11. Just for information, but will clarify with the tape measure tomorrow.
  12. No I do not - though looks like a worth while purchase.
  13. There is nothing fitted to the sides of the vehicle - all bit and pieces removed prior to purchase. Avoided is a bit strong. Not in possession of the information is much more accurate. I could get my tape measure out, but I like the information that you have furnished me with. Thanks Antony
  14. Hmmm, I just typed out an response but decided to delete it and start again. I came on here for a bit of help. Most of know the rules but we are looking for the ways round. It has been done previously, and now I am looking to do it. Any advice in reaching the goal is much appreciated. I am reasonably confident that the vast majority of people on here have broken or bent rules to suit at some point in their life. Soooo, if there is any constructive advice on offer, thank you in advanced. Antony
  15. LOL, don't be silly! The MVT have done me a letter of verification and have referred to the Jane's guide which lists the vehicle as 2.4m wide. Antony
  16. Cheers chaps. I have previous spoken with Andrew and he is a very busy guy. I will give him a try again this morning. I get such mixed comments. So many people straight on the overwidth but as you have said and I have seen some examples (Stormers) they have been registered. Thanks Antony
  17. Morning all I now have all the paperwork I need to try and get my Shielder registered. Still unsure of what and what not to fill in on the V55. I have been told that someone else has manage to register one on the road and if I could get hold of them pick their brains as to what they filled in on their application. Person in question might live near Colchester but not sure. Any help in tracking this person down would be appreciated. Thanks Antony
  18. I spoke to Cooks, they wanted £16k+vat for a set of tracks for my Stormer Shielder!
  19. Hi Diane Do you have it under the Tax Class of Agricultural Machine then? If so, what was your view within that heading? Off Road Tractor? Thanks Antony
  20. Hi Diane There are weight limits and there are goods vehicle weight limits. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/312176/the-highway-code-signs-giving-orders.pdf The sign top left on the second page of that link is applicable to all vehicles, where as the sign on the bottom right of the first page is only applicable to goods vehicles. Therefore, if I can get the Shielder register as something other than a goods vehicle the sign on the first page would not be applicable. Your point about the speed limits, I only found out about that the other day. Though I have seen a handful of videos of people driving on the road at greater than 20mph. You are almost more of a danger driving at 20 than keeping with the flow of traffic, certainly on motorway - but thems the rules! What vehicles do you have and what taxation class are they registered under? Thanks Antony
  21. Hi Sean Yes I have looked at that. As with anything DVLA/DVSA there is a certain amount of who interprets it and how. I personally don't see as a goods vehicle in the traditional sense, even more so as I don't want to be restricted by goods vehicles weight limits. I can't put it down as Historic like it seems a lot of tracked vehicles end up as. That brings me back to PLG - What is the definition of a motor car? Again in the traditional sense probably not a Shielder. But is does also say 'vehicles used for "private" (non-trade or business) purposes' OR Vehicles registered on or after 01/03/01 that do not come in to the scope of the first six tax classes, listed below (Petrol Car, Diesel Car, Alternative Fuel Car, Light Goods Vehicle, Euro 4 Light Goods Vehicle or Euro 5 Light Goods Vehicle) The second reply down on this link http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?41589-Registering-a-CVRT-Sabre/page2 the chaps Spartan came back as PLG which weighs a little more than a Shielder. I am waiting to hear from my local MVT to come out to verify it for me, hopefully they will have some input. Antony
  22. Hi Completely agree with a limit on a bridge for instance. But a weight limit that applies to goods vehicles only ie 7.5t limit through a town centre, can be driven through by a bus for example that is over 7.5t gross as it is not a goods vehicle. What I am getting at is can anyone think of another taxation class other than PHGV that would be valid on the form? i read about one that the DVLA registered as PLG but I thought that was only ever for vehicles 3.5t and under. thanks Antony
  23. Afternoon all I will be picking up a Shielder on Saturday and first job on the list is to get it registered. Has anyone put one of these on the road before? Is it the best plan to fill in a little as is possible? Or go the other way and save them having to ask for extra info? Now, I have a V55/5 and was wondering what I should enter for Box 2 - Tax Class. Don't think I can go for Historic as it looks like it will be verified as about 1999. Next choice is Private HGV, don't mind spending the £165 on tax but we have a quite a few 7.5t weight limits around here and that would restrict where I could go. Any other ideas? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Antony
  24. Hello to everyone. Joined at the weekend. Am picking up a CVR(T) Shielder on Saturday. Plans to register it on the road and probably use for driver training as well as shows. Any help on filling in the V55/5 for the 'newer' vehicles would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Antony
