  3. After the war the Swiss Army acquired quite a bunch of Ward La-France and Diamond T Wreckers. These were used for tank recovery and on airfields. Unfortunately, all these wreckers had the same manufacturing year stated on their "Swiss" building plate. Here are some wreckers I know of: Ward LaFrance (2nd number is the chassis number) 1943, 535364, M1A1 Model 1000 Series 5 1943, 422090, M1 Model 1000 Series 2 1943, 545315, M1A1 Model 1000 Series 5 1943, 434370, M1 Model 1000 Series 4 Kenworth 1943, 52287, Model 570 (1941) Diamond T969 1943, 969B0005 1943, 969A0988 Does anybody know how/where I can source these actual building dates (month/year)? Thanks very much Chris
  4. Could I ask a favour of anybody coming back to the Somerset area from W&P. I have bought a Diamond T tailgate from a guy coming over from Holland. I'll be there to collect it from him on Thursday but as I'm in a car I could do with somebody with a bit of spare space to bring it back to my area. I can collect it from anywhere nearer to me (Weston Super Mare) with my trailer later so it just needs a ride home. Its about 7 feet 6 inchs by about 2 feet and flat so just doesn't take up a lot of space. Thanks in advance.:-D
  5. Hello, I would like to share some pictures of the restauration of our DIAMOND T 980 in 2011. She started her life as an closed cab type, after the war the diamond was used by the Italian army. After a long service career she ended up in a outdoor military dump I guess. A couple of years ago some good-hearted person bought the truck and started the restauration. Somehow, this person stopped his actions on the job, and sold it. That's how she arrived here at our place. As you can see on the pictures behind the link below, we managed to restore it but because the original closed cab was in a very bad shape, we decided to replace it with an open cab. https://picasaweb.google.com/118405202572942481936/RestauratieDiamondM20?authkey=Gv1sRgCLaJv4Gpv9OvXw# Kind regards. 6. Hi I'm Andy and live near the M5 in Somerset. I've been a Military Vehicle collector for many years but have just joined this forum. I have just taken the step of buying a Diamond T 969B. I'm used to Jeeps and Land Rovers which I have and I even had a WC63 Dodge a few years back but this is the first time I've owned anything this big. I'd welcome any advice on Diamond T's and get in contact with any other owners. The vehicle is mostly complete, its undergone a long term restoration and is road legal and running well. Its fitted with a 6 cyl ford turbo diesel engine (not orginal I know but very well fitted and suits the vehicle great, plus gets away from 3 mile per gallon). I'm looking for the lifting/towing A frame for the rear so if anybody has one for sale or one I could have photos of and dimensions, etc. so I could make one that would be great. I'd also looking for any info on low loader trailers that were used with wreckers as longer term I would like to find one (as soon as my partner has calmed down becuase I think the shock of a Diamond T pulling into the drive has been too much for her at the moment !!!!) :-)
