    In celebration of Armed Forces Day, we're hosting our first ever REME Museum Extravaganza! This fun-filled open day will take place throughout the entire Museum grounds, including the galleries and garden spaces! This event combines the best parts of our previous Armed Forces Day events with a traditional Summer Fete, so expect an exciting day out for all the family with loads to get involved in! Featuring: A display of vehicles from our Reserve Collection, as well as military vehicles used currently by local units Bouncy castle Interactive training aids and activities from the Corps Engagement Team Classic games like hook-a-duck, archery, shooting gallery, goal kick and more; Inflatable axe throwing Serving personnel supervising activities and interacting with visitors to talk about their experiences in the Corps. Refreshments will be available to purchase from Crown's Café, which will only be open to visitors with a ticket to the event. General entry fee applies (see details on our website). Tickets available from 29 March 2024.

    Having restored 1944 Airborne 10cwt No1 Mk2 Trailer and an 1944 10cwt Lightweight Water Bowser (posted photos previously on HMVF), I've now got a new project. Have been lucky to find a 1944 Lightweight Electrical Repair trailer (thanks Richard). I believe it is one of the trailers developed by the REME section of the Airborne Forces Development Centre based at Amesbury Abbey (Wilts) from 1943 in cooperation with the REME Central Workshops at Old Dalby (ref. Rob van Meel's British Airborne Jeeps). The trailer data plate shows it to be "Electrical Repair Trailer. No.1 Mk II. Cont. No. 23/7940" and WD Number: X6170936. It still has its 110v DC Bench Grinder and a 110v DC "Van Norman YW Valve Refacer", a large worklight and an Admiralty Pattern 1 Gallon Still (for distilling water for batteries!). It came its original canvas cover with "T-plate", but is missing the simple steel frame (on the to do list). I am guessing the old design of triangle warning plate is a post-war. It is missing the collapsible workbenches that slotted into the front...does anyone have any information on these? Size and method of construction? The two wooden cased 6v battery boxes are also missing. But I think it is an unusual survivor in very good conditon, I'll post a few photos below, but I am very interested to find any further informaton about these trailers, their equipment and use. It seems that this particular example only left the army in late 1970s/early 80's, possibly having been with a TA unit. I don't think the REME museum has one, althought they do have the very similar Lightweight Machinery Trailer. How many others survive? Thanks in anticipation John

    Anybody got any pictures of REME halftracks in service with the FRT's. There was one posing as gate guardian at SEME for many years that didn't have an engine -- don't know if that's still there! The last time I remember seeing some was when stationed at 5 Infantry Workshops, Dortmund as a young squaddie in the 60's -- bet there are none preserved

    Anyone know the proper nomenclature fot the wee Jib/Crane, on the right, holding the old Engine in this IWM photo? Any info on it at all, manuals, drawings etc. REME fitters prepare to install a new engine into a Sherman tank at 8th Armoured Brigade workshops, 9 August 1944. © IWM (B 8892)

    Purchased in Oct 2013 this is my Militant recovery for sale, please see my restoration blog under ‘87 ET 77’ in the restorations section of this website. i have three spare part worn Michelin tyres on a single pallet and a 95% complete spare gearbox split over three pallets. Near bare metal respray with red oxide & then 2-pack NATO paint by local commercial spray shop. crane works as it should, not had cause to use the winch. Located in Derbyshire DE6 I can help with arranging transport. regards nick

    I was browsing through the IWM archives and stumbled upon these. Not many registration numbers visible, just one partial for a Humber ___K08, and Saracen 83BA31, __BA09, 82BA85, 82BA87 and Land Rover 04DM24 . Still, thought it might be of interest. The depot still exists, although in much modified form. Although captioned as Takali, the area is in Attard, 2 miles south of Takali.     Dear all, the REME Museum in Lyneham is now open, Tues to Sat 1000-1630. There are displays, shop, cafe, research and education facilities. At £7 for adults, £5 for children, it seems to be good value. It is on the A 3102, same as the main gate for MOD Lyneham which is well signposted, try SN15 4PT.     Dear all, and especially those who served and know. What were common practices for vehicle markings for Land Rovers for a REME LAD attached to a tank unit such as 4 RTR? Did they have a tac sign on the doors? Did they ever carry the REME colours on a decal or hard plate at the front of the vehicle. Was a tac sign like a wrench or spanner used, that is how it is done over here but I dont presume anything. BAOR usage, so a Union Jack sticker front and rear? Would REME personnel wear the black coveralls of the RTR with their own cap badges in a black beret? Anything anyone can illuminate this with is greatly appreciated Thanks Robin

    Hi Guys If you know of any ex REME Saladin gun fitters that live in or near Derbyshire or further a field let us know as we would like build a FMR and fit a bracket onto the 76 to fire a .22 rifle and need help. Peter
