I've seen numerous links on numerous web forums for photos from A F Budge's site - but all these links are broken, as in the photo hosting websites has gone, or the person has stopped paying their ransom. If you have any old photos of Richard Beddal, A (Tony) F Budge or Harry Pounds, etc - perhaps you could share the actual photos on here, because so many photos can't be seen due to the broken links. I'm specifically looking for photos of 4 Alvis Stalwarts that Richard Beddall bought from Austria in the mid 1980s. These were sold to A (Tony) F Budge around 1988. These Austrian Stalwarts, like the 2 German ones have Hella combined side and indicator lights on the side of the cab, rather than the usual two rubies on the front of the cab. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

I always thought Stalwarts had been fitted with Bar grip tyres from day one, because they had bar grips on when I drove them in the 1980s. But I knew that all of Alvis' Saladins, Saracens, Salamanders and even Stalwarts sold to other countries were all fitted with Track grip tyres. Then I noticed that the early photos of Stalwarts in Aden, in 1964 also had Track grip tyres. I'm advised that the Stalwarts did indeed arrive in Aden with Track grips, but the rocky roads were ripping them apart and Sand tyres were first tried. Plenty of photos of other vehicles in Aden with Track grips, such as Ferrets with the wings still on. But later photos show the wings removed to reduce the amount of metal flying around after hitting a mine - and sand tyres. The last photo shows a Stalwart with the familiar Bar grips. I could never quite put my finger on why this photo looked so "fresh" until I realised the tyre situation - and it's got 6 brand spanking new Bar grips on. I guess there's a report somewhere of the trials, and the changes to Bar grips. If anyone has a photo of a Stolly on Sand tyres I'd appreciate a copy for the website. Thanks

Hi, I'm searching for good PDFs or original manuals and handbooks for the HMLC Stalwart, to share on the Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Alvis.HMLC.6.x.6.Stalwart/ I'm happy to scan any original manual to convert it to PDF, and post them back to anyone kind enough to post originals. I've been working on this for two years now. I have compiled and MOD have declassified quite a few files now. If you have originals of anything marked as red or orange in the list, then I would really appreciate your loaning them to me

Hello all, Steve asked me to step up and say something. I figured if a picture is worth 1000 words I'd create an album and get started with 13,000. The pictures are mostly self explanatory. All vehicles are currently owned. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/album.php?albumid=274 The 5 ton is a 72' AM General M813A1 retired from Iraq. It has the Cummings NHC 250 (855 cu inch). I have added a turbo, winch and supersingle 14:00x20's. The 69' V-100 (aka M706) was returned from Vietnam. It was last used as a movie prop for 92' film Freejack. It is street legal (the engine and transmission are currently out) , 65mph, and amphibious. I plan to restore it to 69' trim. The Stalwart is a 71' REME Fitters FV624. Serial STAL-II-876 The Deuce and half is a 71' AM General M35A2. I have added power steering, the turbo, stack muffler, pyrometer, coolant filter... The 28 cylinder R4360-63A is out of an Air Force C124 Gloabmaster II. Built in mid to late 50's it is rated at 3800hp at 2700 rpm (~7400lb*ft torque). Fuel consumption at rated power is about 400 gallons/hour. The plan is for dynamic display. Jim

I am soon going to be changing the starter motor on my Alvis Stalwart (STAL54). While I am at it, I would like to know more about the wiring system: for example, the braided cable that runs from the ignition junction box to the starter motor. I'd like to find out what sort of cables and connectors were used, and I'd appreciate advice on how best to go about sympathetically rejuvenating the wiring, cleaning the connector contacts, and possibly sourcing replacements. I'd like the wiring to be safe and reliable, but as "authentic" as possible too. DJW

Hello, I currently reside in the Seattle area of Washington state, USA. I have no military service, and no ownership of any military vehicles...yet. But I have a great interest in them, and a healthy amount of general auto mechanics experience. My co-workers and I recently discovered several Alvis Stalwarts for sale in the area, and at a reasonable price - this sparked my interest! I found the HMVF while researching the Stolly, and discovered the wealth of MV knowledge you all have to offer. Hopefully one day I may contribute to the collection, especially if we end up with one (or several) of the Stalwarts :-D ~Chad

The attached diagram shows part of the ignition circuit on the Alvis Stalwart; it's the bit inside the big circle that puzzles me. Is this old notation for a relay? If so, what is the switching characteristic? Rgds, DJW

Hi, does anyone know the part nos for a Stalwart Clutch plate, I have come across some plates in the shed and I am trying to identify them, they are supposed to be for a Rolls B80/B81 and they are a 12" plate, but the centre boss seems too large to be Martian.
