Great pic's Baz. :)

Where are the beer tent ones ..........:cool2:

that 25pdr quad and limber was NICE. Youngsters with it gave me a great booklet on history, etc.

Next year, making sure I get across for a few more days. :-D

Well the cubes are home, but certainly not dry! Had my Dad staying with us last night and he unfotuantly slept on the bit of carpet that had no polythene underneath it  and at 4am woke up very very wet! We packed the mansion away wet and will re-erect later this week.

We have had a fabulous time though, loads and loads of trucks. Red Bull were as ever brilliant, supplying us committee members with tea, thanks guys.

A massive thanks to everyone who took the time to stop off at HQ to say thanks for the weekend, it really makes us feel good.

Will begin organising next years show next week!

Yes,I was rather disappointed that a member of our Unit was confronted by members of the public who tried to engage a fight, Im sure this was just a rare one off with drunken locals of the area. They were young so I was told. Shame!

Also I felt let down by the "family" show spirit that a member of our unit was confronted in the bar by a member of another unit. And abused for wearing a British unifom because he has his ears pierced as well as his lip. I find this the same as abusing some one because they dont wear the correct shoes or indeed they are a different religion.

Its rather an off putting experience towards members of other re enact groups.

More so when some one can be "abused" in public because they dont fit in. What was more of a total anger to myself was this person was dressed in Waffen SS uniform! and calling a British citizen names and regarding him as disrespectful for his British unifom. Forgive me but does the program not state about the Axis uniforms and restrictions? In the beer tent?

I was sure in the year 2008 people would accept others for what they are, but it seems people are extremly fast to judge and cast opinions before engaging fact and information. Our member didnt even display rank or Regiment. Just in greens. It's a shame really.. I feel that I need to make this public.

I shall be addressing this group to the SOE.

Other than that, it was a good show! and a great turn out. even with the poor weather.

That is a shame, Personally i dont see the need for anyone to wear full uniform in the bar of an evening, made worse by not removing head dress!, surely the reenactment is over and the socialising should be in top gear?

I had a run in with some of the Axis group a couple of years ago as i felt it was not appropriate for him to be wearing full SS uniform complete with cap, Luger, Bayonet and German Shepard dog in the bar in the evening, the reply i got was to sod off as he was the duty officer so he had to wear full uniform! and he was a policemen (traffic cop i think!). One step too far for my liking.

Dont get me wrong i appreciate what they're doing during the day, its intresting to see and i notice the 101st airborne won the battle again! but is there any need to keep it going 24hours a day?

Gripe over

I must admit every show I go to it states in the rules NO SS UNIFORMS.....

Not every show... we have no problems with them if they are worn in the correct context... there were SS displaying directly in front of you at the Bunker Bash, when putting on a Living History/Military Vehicle show you can't start leaving bits of history out...

To be honest I'd rather see a SS reenactor in proper uniform than a reenactor in DPM's with rings through his lips or purple hair or anything else that wouldn't be accepted in service... nothing personal against the reenactor but if you're going to do it then do it correctly... I suspect that's what the guy in the bar was getting at...

Maybe we should all be the correct fitness level. no over weight people?

No disabilities? how far do I have to stress? No ranks thats have not been awarded?

Nothing worn that has not been correctly earnt by the member in question.

Would that not kill the whole scene?

Personal abuse and attacks are not acceptable! regardless, people should keep opinions to their selves.

Would you walk up to Anyone in the street to stress you do not agree with something?

I'm very upset by the lack of feelings by bigotted narrow minds

War and Peace rules say no axis uniforms to be worn anywhere other than in the living history areas. As a british reenactor why not make it no uniforms in the bar? As with removing head dress the amount of people smoking, drinking alcohol and eating while wearing their head dress... Nevermind rant over lol lets all drink and get along

I can see your point lee.

It's a shame when we argue amongtst ourselves, after all, we all love the mv scene.

Half the point is we do argue amongst ourselves. the result is WE set up the rules and code of conduct, not some ****outsider enforcing things on us. Last sunday at Dover Castle, entertaing the queue for the WW1 Trench Experience, I was asked by a cub scout, who were the goodies and who were the baddies. I told him that both sides were putting out propoganda about the rights and wrongs, depending on which side he was on he would have been told it was his duty to fight. This carried on with a discussion bettween me and the cubs for about ten minutes, with the whole quue listening intently. At the end one of the public said to me 'I'm a history teacher, if I talked to the kids like that I'd be up before the Head for breacking away from the sylabus, congratulations, you have made them think about the answer, not had it PC fed to them'.

the only rule i stick to is when wearing headdress i dont smoke or drink

when headdress is removed you are off duty

if anyone walks into a mess with headdress on its drinks all round on the poor suspect

as for bickering between ourselfs it shouldnt happen as we all enjoy our events

I know people row and will disagree, Please Lee dont take as if I am aiming it at you! I am not!

Im just upset that a member and a very close friend, who was just wearing lightweights and a green shirt was a torrent of abuse and threatening behavior! He was shocked and I doubt he will attend the "family" show again!

Also he did not have head dress on! as did the offender pointing the finger!

It has upset me to the point I'm very tempted to pull out of shows on a big scale

true about the making up:beer:

its always best to clear the air before going to sleep

paul if he had a beret on and in the bar and started abuse i would like to know as that would have been a error for the movement:nono::nono::banghead:especially if ex forces

i know this is starting to get into the p word but the movement must be above race/religion/creed and when the public view us we must show the best side of our nature not the worst:argh:

enougth of my rant

Paul - you really shouldn't do that. You have something to offer, don't walk away from that.

It is strange as I have been in this hobby for just 3 years but running HMVF puts you into many situations. I am very observant and like to study human behavior and behavioral patterns. It has to be noted that there seems to be an awful lot of aggression in the re-enactment hobby. This isn't just limited to the UK but have noted it in the USA and Europe.

I haven't come across anything like this in the mv hobby to date. Yes there may be some WW2 v Post War spats but it is limited.

I am still trying to find the reason why this is apparent in the re-enacting movement and it may be a maturity/age related issue.

Dont you think it might just be mathematics you know take 10 people and one will be a ...,one will be a .....,2 wil be ........ one will be dead before he is 20 so on and so on.The larger the nos the bigger the risk,

OUR CHURCH OF THE DIVINE LAY ABOUT BRIXTON Have positive proof its the drink, harmless bit of ribbing + iron brew no trouble.

add booze light blue touch paper stand well back.Jacking it in will only remove you from the scene not the rsoles. As a group we need to identify the problems and jump on it straight away.I know this would not be popular but do we need a beer tent, got all the other days wk ends for booze.?

Unfortunatley, anything that is looked on as 'Unusual' attracts a lunatic fringe. If this drives the decent ones out then they win. Fanatics are dangerous no matter whose side they are on. Paul you have the support of the majority.
