Default Italy to ban all Nazi symbols

not clear if this will affect historic artifacts like helmets, swords, daggers, flags etc. but if it does then we could be seeing a surge of that stuff on the market coming from Itlay as collectors are forced to get rid of their items

Not at all. At worst vendors will have to put a sticker over such symbols at public shows. It won't influence the collector's market at the least.

Isn't it strange that politicians want to ban something Nazi, that in the minds of most people is something consigned to history as a symbol representing the evil that killed 25 million people but not something upper most in peoples minds.

Meanwhile the hammer and sickle is OK even though under such a symbol approximately 32 million died in China under Chairman Mao's rule and perhaps another 25 million dead under the Soviet Lenin and Stalin. Mein Kampf is bad Chairman Mao's little red book is OK! Fascism is somehow evil and Communism is somehow 'heroic' but IMHO I cannot see much difference!

Perhaps these types of politicians who want to ban Nazi stuff are the ones who want to ban anti-personnel land mines and yet allow shed loads of AK-47s and the like to get shipped all over the world!

fully agree, total pointless interfering hogwash...the government are making it a symbol of today again...they are typical of the idiocy of those who come into government today, they have petty pointless ideas that really mean little or nothing to real people...
The Cold War Museum. 'we are not ready' but in true tradition of the British, we will overcome all that we face.
Curator, owner, dogs body, tea maker, errand boy, and anything else that is needed to get it open. but in true British tradition the planners have already scuppered my plans so we cannot open on the 1st may no matter what I do...I love my country but gosh I wish we could do away with planners...

Yes , however you have used the word Communism , I believe in the same context Hitler always used the words Jewish Bolshevism and that is where the difference you seek lies.

Before it was taken over by the Natzi party historicaly it was a symbol for good. I wonder if they have taken that into account.

Tha swastika embelishment on equipment etc. - Indo-European source for "good luck"

btw. Natzi / Nazi , National Socialists would never use this derogatory term , without going to the nth of explanation - a rough translation is 'country bumpkin'..

I think this type of ban stems from the fear that countries such as Germany, Japan and so on have, that their history may repeat itself if not kept under tight check.

This is something that we (by which I mean British people) will never truly understand as we do not carry that fear in our national psyche.
