Photobucket.......

I am not sure why they should cry at some account deletions, if the main purpose of those accounts was storage for forum posting. They need to get advertising seen by viewers, and places like Facebook generate clicks, but I cannot remember ever seeing any advertising related to any photobucket image I have seen on a forum. It would be a different story if images were embedded like a video, because then they could use YouTube-style adverts one can dismiss.

So, sadly, while it may feel comforting to stomp about like a bear with a sore ass, unless someone can come up with a successful way of monetizing pictures in <img> tags, the halcyon days of photobucket storage is over.

Using photobucket on my phone without ad block meant pop ups, I don't mind those, but the ones that rerouted to another website with a "your phone is infected with 8 viruses" and no way to to back to the photobucket page except for 're entering the web address on a fresh page.

That is something they could have stayed away from.

Some? I suspect that actual number of lost accounts because of this will be significantly more than some - and that's without the unquantifiable damage done to the brand reputation!

I would imagine that they can quite easily estimate potential damage, given that they know what proportion of the images are going to forums. While to us such forums are important, we are just a small part of the market that they support, mostly for free.

Photobucket as a forum support is dead, beyond our ability to renovate, just wave and let it go. All that remains are the opportunities for the future.

If anyone is having issues getting libraries downloaded prior to closing accounts ( I see the "Download Library" option has been removed from the options on the main website) I found this way of doing it.  It's time consuming but does work.

First off you need a mobile phone with enough room to store at least the largest the library and a USB cable that will connect the phone to a PC.  Having WiFi will save you a fortune on data charges too..
* Fully charge the phone and hook it up to the PC via a USB cable.
*Open up Explorer or File manager and connect to the phone as a drive.  Navigate to the pictures folder on your phone.
* Open up the Photobucket app on the phone.
* Go into your Libraries, open a Library and at top right you see three vertical dots.  Tap on that and "Download Library" is an option.
* Tap on that menu item and the system will down load the library to your phone in a folder named "photobucket_<library_name>".
* Check the number of files in the library on Photobucket and make sure it matches the number of downloaded files.  I found anything over 200 files in a library might need the download function run more than once to get them all.
* Using file manger or Explorer move that directory onto your preferred storage space.
* Repeat for every single library you have.  You can stack up to half a dozen to download in succession. Note that if you have any sub-libraries these need to be down loaded as separate libraries - the system will not bring them down with the top level library..

And that is it!!  Its taken me most of the day to get all mine down and I had to pause between libraries at one point to recharge the phone.
