Military lamp?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I picked up a pair of these lamps recently;-

I was told that they were from a jeep or a lorry.

The lamp weighs just over 5lbs,the diameter of the glass is 7", and the only mark that I can find is on the centre of the glass and that is FV169907.

Can anyone kindly shed any light (sorry!) on these lamps please? eg are they military?what are they off?what date are they?

Any help or advice would be much apprerciated.Thanks.

Kevin.

Looking at the photo you've got it propped up on blocks - is there an attachment bracket/pin?

That will probably give a few pointers....

Its a spotlight/small searchlight for a CVRT or smaller AFV e.g. a CET FV180. Often advertised as ex military Land Rover.

I'm sure the learned members of the forum can be more specific

Heres one listed on the Green machine surplus website:

Hi Tarland,

Thanks for your reply and the interesting information it contained - the link certainly shows a lamp that looks like the one that I have.

Here is a photo of the fixing bracket ;-

All the best,

Funny you should say that, I picked up a similar one this weekend at the AEC show. Not quite as good condition as yours, paint is well scraped about, works though. Paid £20 for it.

It is based on a standard Military headlamp, with a carrying handle and on/off switch. Mine has a long lead and a 2 pin plug that fits the vehicles inspection lamp socket. Ideal for my Militant Tanker when you need to see to refuel someone in the dark
