Looks like the rear of a missile launcher, seems a familiar picture but cant place where I have seen it

Yes well done

I'm also looking for the name of the thing, the name of the vehicle, the location & appx date.

But a good first response. I have googled for the image, not found it so I hope it is not out there to give the game away :-)

Bloke on the back, who appears to only have one leg, is just about to light the blue touch paper

He might only have one leg Rob, he's certainly looking a bit nervous about getting down :-)

Well, that white thingy looks very like a minefieild marker to me, so if it don't clear'em, does it lay mines?

Neither of those things Tony, but from what I've red it was quite dusty there, so time to reveal a bit more.

hints about dust
Yes that is a hint, or part of one, but not in the literal sense you are thinking.

looks like the vehicle is a Commer Q4 and I know some of them were out at Woomera and Maralinga. Looking again I think it is a Q4 tipper chassis adapted to raise the frame the rocket or whatever is mounted on.

They men look like they may not be service personnel, so this is a government test programme.
