Tony B
Oh dear, are we going to start a Tilley anoraks forum? I have a 1952 No 6 Surgeons, tilley lamp. got all new gaskets and it works a treat. Since then I seem attracted to tilley and hurricane lamps, possibly I'm turning into a moth? :dunno: :shake:
abn deuce
you just might be . I d limit exposer just in case and you should give notice to those around you that if you begin to circle the lamp or get to near to cut it off lest you get some very nasty serious burns. ;-)
Tony B
Damn right!! It'll heat a 9x9 very effectively. The Doctor's lamp as you see has a curved tube to allow it to stand but will also chain hang. There is an optional white reflector to fit over the mantle top. The light it gives out is phenomenal. The picture was taken using the lamp as the only light source for a competion, didn't win but got a lot of favourable comments.
abn deuce
Yes, its a good design and a great addition to making a more complete authentic military tent display . I m sure lots went to the camping surplus dealers and have been trashed when people went to compressed gas cylinders for ease of use . Nice find. Tony B
Already done, trouble is as I siad it started me on collecting. Have a close look at Hurricane lamps etc at boot sales, a lot are wartime or 1950's and at a couple of quid at most go well with the MV's. hardyferret
Good men! Between Keith and I, we possess in the order of 60 plus Tilley type vapourising lamps, spotlights, table lamps and heaters. Remember, happiness is a good pump and a glowing mantle :schocked: HF ;-)
abn deuce
True and a good supply of new mantles is a Must, and if happiness is to continue a bit of fuel , or do you use kerosene ? or other . over here it was white gas , or Coleman fuel , some states completely band Kerosene as a way to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning from kerosene space heaters. You should post a few of your rarer examples , I know I d be interested to see the verity.
Tony B
Mine use Kerosene, or as we call it Paraffin. The stuff over here is a great improvement on the old stuff, that used to stink the place out.
