What type diff oil?

Recommended Posts

I've started changing the oils in my Bedford MW for the first time and have noticed that the differential oil is much thicker than the gearbox oil. The drivers manual says that they should be the same viscosity but this is clearly not what I have.

What would you folks recommend? 80/90 or something thicker? If thicker, then what are the disadvantages?

We have used Penrite Gear Oil - Trans Oil 140 in both gear box and diff for many years. It is designed for vintage vehicles and has no additives to damage yellow metal bearings, shims etc. ie it is not a Hupoid type oil. We have had no problems with our MWD, MWR , OSS and QL Bedfords using this.
