it says in the article 145 units, but may include a large spares package.

I see , I had pondered the caliber being 145mm , however just checked Wiki and it is 155mm

So - expensive

Aston Martin , new limited edition £1.5million - relative I suppose

For modern military contracts, they usually aren't just for a unit price to cover equipment (value of contract divided by number of units is not equal to the unit cost).

They generally go for a set period of time (20 years or so) and include things like:

  • Training
  • Spares
  • Maintenance
  • Overhaul
  • Logistics
  • Infrastructure

Of course, the M777 is top of the line and full of titanium, so it's not a cheap gun...
