a selection of photos from a great archive showing some interesting details

Great Pictures, I may be daft and my kids would say yes, is that a loud speaker on the bonnet? also is that a wire drum on the rear?

Some great pictures there - I particularly like the captured Blitz. But what's that plate on rear wheel arch? And I can't quite make out the name give to this jeep either. Who has better eyesight?

And for the uniform buffs, what's the patch on the man's sleeve?

Culver city Express.

Signal Corps photographer badge (I think)

The plaque guarantees that was the first Jeep to land on D Day and is therefore worth a ton of money to anybody who believes it. Actually, I don't know about the plaque, I have never seen anything like it before.

Thanks Tim.

Ah the famous D-Day rally plaque. Awarded to all those who went along to the organiser's tent...

Is that a punt gun that they are all studying?

Nice pictures :)

No, they are looking at the semaphore flicking it out when someone gets to close.

It was actually a secret weapon for close proximity self defense. :-D

It it looks like your almost right. It's a large punt gun and the trigger is wired to the signal arm so the driver can fire it with little movement of his hands. Ideal for those road blocks manned by the Germans impersonating MPs.
