MatchFuzee
I found the posts below on the Austin Seven Friends Forum and wonder if military vehicles are being targeted in the same way? Tracking devices. For all the people who like to enter cars shows, it would seem that cars at shows and events have become targets for criminals. A tracking device is fitted to the car at the show then is later tracked to the owners home address and the car stolen. It is probably worth giving your car a good look over before you leave the show just to be on the safe side. Re: Tracking devices. I saw these images posted on a classic Ford page I follow, these were found on a car after Ford Fair at Silverstone, there has also been reports of cars going missing after this event also Photos by joda_2k

CVRW721
Having read through the post I would make the following comments which may be self explanatory but when one considers the value of our vehicles kit and associated extras its prudent to consider any threat to our property . A covert GPS tracking unit is a device, which when placed on a target vehicle allows individuals with access to a tracking service to track vehicles using the Global Position System . These systems work on push technology and are available really cheaply and afford the user a high degree of anonomity . A GPS tracking system can determine and track the precise location of the device at intervals or in real time , battery life and other operational features play a part in the setup . Some devices can actually also transmit voices around the target vehicle . The criminal or those looking to make improper gain use equipment that transmit date to a central location server data base. The system data can then be accessed by an Internet -connected handheld device using a mobile GPRS . As we talking about criminal intent and judging by the devices illustrated the individuals may be using using SMS text message systems which send co--ordinates to usually an unregistered sim card . This allows the vehicles texted location to be displayed against a map backdrop either real time or by entering the cordinate's into google earth . I would suggest that forum members in the unlikely event they find such a device report the matter to the local police force or event organisers. Do not resort to getting into countermeasures by buying a GSM/GPS/WiFi/3G/4G jammers if you get caught using one you might just find yourself in a test case. Whilst jamming systems can be purchased online , and it is not illegal to import, sell, buy or possess one . The use of such a device is an offence only under the Wireless Telegraphy Act to "knowingly use" such a device to block GPS signals . A GSM blocker effectively creates a RF free bubble around a unit for about 500 metres that jams any GPS receiver or transmitter ie mobile phone "It will stops any tracking system by blocking the GSM [mobile phone] signal that is used to send back a location."It means that for anyone trying to track the vehicle, it just vanishes off the map similar to what occurs when a target vehicle goes into an underground or multi-storey car park or solidily constructed storage building, in fact any location where the tracker cannot get a global position fix. Jammers are devices that prevent radio equipment from receiving and transmitting the signals relevant to their function. Use of such devices therefore constitutes the specific offence of causing deliberate interference. Many radio applications can be the target of such devices, including TETRA communications systems, 2.4GHz radio Local Area Networks and GPS systems, but the most common aim is to target mobile phone use . In transmitting signals on the frequencies at which GSM and UMTS operations are conducted, mobile phone jammers make it impossible for a handset located within their range of action to make or receive calls and messages. They can also result in the disruption of emergency services communications equipment . Remember that in the MV world the criminals may be just as interested in the other stuff we collect apart from the vehicle .
Shamouti Ben Yafo
I think that if I didn't fancy talking to the Blue Army, I'd go for a watertight box (cheap enough from Asda) and send said device on a free cruise down the nearest decent river... LarryH57
Its an interesting topic and I wonder if it is possible to reverse track a vehicle fitted with a device, so that whereas the owner fits the tracker in case the vehicle is stolen, the thief could use a tracker to find it? A bit too '007' perhaps or a possibility?
