Forum RULES & GUIDELINES

In joining this forum you are agree to abide by the rules as set out below or as amended as the management see fit.

Accounts
.

When you join HMVF you will receive an account registered to your name and email address. You are limited to one personal account. The creation of multiple accounts with different user names is strictly forbidden and any such accounts will be terminated with no recourse to appeal, along with the originator's membership.

It is just etiquette.

If you're new, take the time to read a few threads first. Get a feel for the place; hang out a little; get an idea of what goes and what doesn't. There are countless conventions and unwritten rules on this, and every, forum, which you will only understand by observing others. If in doubt, keep quiet - it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

That First Post.

When posting for the first time, please introduce yourself, preferably with your real first name. This helps people think you're a real person. Tell us a bit about yourself, which vehicles you own or intend owning or other interest. If you have accidentally forgotten to fill in most of the details in your profile, like where you come from or what you do for a living, consider going back now and plugging a few gaps so that, when somebody clicks to see whom you are, they don't find a load of blanks. It is nice for all of us to know who we are talking to. It is considered as rube to jump in & join a conversation without first making an introduction. If you do make a post without making an introduction first you will receive a reminder asking you to make one. Please do not make an Intorduction saying just " Hi I'm from wherever..." tell us a bit more about yourself, were you in the Services? what's your main interests etc. Members who choose not to post a FULL intro may find that they do not have full access to the forum.

To protect members from Scammers posts in the classifieds section will be removed until an acceptable introduction has been made. No advertising allowed in the Introductions board.

The board

Is policed by voluntary Moderators who are experienced MV owners and in my opinion damn fine clever people in their respective fields. They are also busy people with lives, jobs and families who give freely of their precious time to enable this place to exist. They have a sense of humor, which coincidentally lives right alongside their sense of annoyance at people who post inappropriate things. These require the moderators to regularly trawl through the all posts to edit out these posts and delete offending material and gets very tedious very quickly. If you post inappropriately, you will not be on their Christmas card list and may well find your ability to log into the HMVF next time mysteriously difficult. Our mods are human and appreciate a little respect and remember, their word is final and I will, always, stand behind any of their decisions.

Be Circumspect

This forum is growing into a wonderful and one of the most widely read MV forums and is read by a huge number of people in many different countries. So please beware of what you post may offend people form different parts of the world. Any racist or sexist remarks will be removed without notice & a warning will be issued to the poster

The Moderators are in Charge of the smooth running of the Forum.

No member shall question the action of the Moderating/Admin Team in an open post on the forum, if the thread/post moderation concerns yourself directly please take it to PM where we will discuss it. Any such posts questioning our actions on the forum will be deleted without notice. Threads are moderated for the benefit & smooth running on the Forum & its members, all moderation is discussed by the moderating team in deciding what action to take. We will not discuss any members business with any other member.

Any member that removes a large number of posts/threads for no legitimate reason may find their account restricted or removed.

The HMVF Team are very approachable, if you have a problem with any part of the forum please contact us & we will do our best to get things sorted.

Moderation of Threads/Posts FAQ...

My Thread/Post has disappeared???

If you become aware that one of your threads/posts is missing this is probably because it as been

removed by one of the Moderators/Admin.

Threads/Post are not deleted, they are moved to a holding folder where the reason for the removal

is discussed by the staff of HMVF,one of three things then happen:

The thread/post: Remains removed, Is restored to the Forum or Restored to the forum but Edited.

Some of the text/photos are missing from my post???

In some circumstances we may just edit a section of post, if this is the case the section of

removed text will be replaced in red with the words
Mod Edit

Photos may be removed because they are not suitable for the forum or are too large for the page.

Why was my Thread/Post Moderated???

There could be a number of reason for this, Political or Religious comments, Flaming, Foul language

etc.

The thread may also of been reported to the Moderating team by another Member for us to look at, in this case we will never disclose the identity of that member.

In most cases we will notify you ASAP that Thread/Post is being moderated, We do not allow the same post to be posted on multiple boards.

Disagreements.

These will inevitably occur (this is a discussion forum after all, which relies on differences of opinion to exist), and when they do we ask you to maintain your dignity. You are entitled to express any opinions you choose, but you will be required to defend them in rational debate should we disagree. 'It's just my opinion' is not a valid excuse for being wrong. If you think something you are about to post might risk inadvertently offending another member and you want to tone it down a little, try using one of the smilies to introduce a grin or a wink into your post.

Politics,Religion & Sports.

Religion & sports have no relevance to this forum so please refrain from posting subjects on this matter

Politics creeps into every day life and the movement has, like all others its fair share of politics - but it isn't tolerated here on HMVF. Yes, sometimes we can all have a bad hair day but please keep it off the forum. One of the reasons that HMVF is so successful is because it is politics free, it is a safe place to spend some time and it shows respect to all fellow members if we keep politics off the forum. Open debate is good and healthy and is encouraged but the moderating team, without question will take the appropriate action to keep HMVF smooth and 'trouble' free. Again, if you think something you are about to post might risk inadvertently offending another member, then don't post it.

E-Petitions.

To save straying into Politics, E-Petitions may be locked or deleted where we see fit.

VOSA/DVLA/DfT & other Government Departments & the Emergency Services

Any derogatory/inflammatory remarks made about any of the above or their staff will be removed without notice if we feel that it brings HMVF in to disrepute.

Current/Recent Conflicts.

Although we have the greatest respect for all members or the Armed Forces we have a policy of not discussing recent or current conflicts so as not to bring Politics on to the forum. No Recent Combat Photos/Film Footage to be posted please.

Classifieds & Advertising

This Board is reserved for Private
Military related adverts only. Adverts are free but if your item sells then please consider using the Donate Button on the front page. Members that start listing large amounts of items may be considered as a commercial seller & have their posts removed/restricted & a fee may be payable to continue to advertise.

When posting adverts please post a full description of your advert with posts, not just a link to other websites where your advert maybe posted.

Commercial advertising is by prior arrangement only.

Any advert not adhering to these rules will be removed.

No advertising allowed in the Introductions board.

If you do not intend adding any other content to the forum other than using it to place adverts then please move on.

No Adverts or Wants to be posted in any board other than Classifieds or wants. Members with a post count score less than 5 will not be allowed to post any form of classified adverting or wants, this includes contacting members via PM to sell an item. Post will be deleted without notice if these rules are not followed or a member will be banned if they carry on breaking these rules.

Flaming, Offensive Remarks & Foul Language:

Aggressive posts, defamatory/libelous/offensive-inflammatory remarks, foul language, or harassment of other members will not be accepted (otherwise known as flaming). As these forums are often viewed both at home and in workplaces, family language is encouraged. Please remember this is an open forum & non members can read all the material contained in it, please remember that Women & Children read the forum.

Make sense.

The only things that matter on this forum are your words and they're the only way you have of gaining respect from this community. Use them wisely. While you won't find yourself gagged for mis-spelling, the forum does include a built in spell checker, we do urge you to take time over your posts so that we can read them.
Please do not type entirely in CAPITALS.

Due to Section 36 of the VCR Act 2006 (Manufacture, import and sale of Realistic Imitation Firearms (RIF's)) coming in to force on 1st October 2007 you will no longer be able the advertise or discuss manufacture of RIF's on HMVF.

Posts for the following RIF's will no longer be accepted:

Blank Fire Firearms.Replica Firearms.Gas Simfire Firearms.Airsoft Firearms.

Any other Firearm we deem unacceptable. (Live Firearms etc.)

Please note we still accept adverts for Deactivated Firearms with a deactivation certificate.

We have taken these steps to protect HMVF & it's members as we have no way of checking whether the VCR Act is being complied with.

Usernames, Signatures and Avatars

Anything offensive or Political will be removed, unacceptable usernames will not be granted membership.

We reserve the right to edit signatures & remove images from signatures.

No advertising in Signatures without prior arrangement

Links to other Forums, websites & Businesses.

Please contact us before posting links to other forums, websites or businesses, HMVF is only as good as the information posted on the forum, if we feel that important content will be lost through any such links then all references to such links will be removed. Any links to buisinesses that may confilct with HMVF's interests or associated business may be removed. Any links allowed must be reciprocal. If any member continues to direct members to any links that have been removed then they may find it difficult to access the forum in the future.

Text and graphics may be reproduced free of charge in any format or medium by signed up members only of the Historic Military Vehicle Forum provided it is reproduced accurately and not used in a misleading manner, and is used only for the purposes of any personal educational research use.

However, the copying, publication or distribution of any text or graphics contained in this website for any commercial or other purposes is not authorized unless permission is first obtained from the Historic Military Vehicle Forum.

It is not, nor is it intended to be, legal advice or a substitute for legal advice

Legal Advice.

Please note that any legal advice given or implied anywhere on this forum is the poster's (Members & HMVF Staff) own interpretation of the law & not necessarily correct. Proper legal advice should always be taken if in any doubt.

Is Your Vehicle Legal to use on the Road?

It is the responsibility of the individual member to determine whether their vehicle complies with current C&U regulations

(& any other relevant legislation)
& to determine that it has been properly registered with the DVLA & can be used legally on the road.

"Any post that suggests that a vehicle is being used with a dangerous defect (poor brakes, steering, tyres etc.) or used in some other illegal manner will be removed immediately.

If any member comes across a post that they think may be a represent a safety issue with a vehicle then please use the "Report to Moderator" button rather than making a comment in a open post. The moderators will take a look at it & take action if required"

Any guidance given by other members with regards to these issues must be taken as just opinions, HMVF will neither agree or disagree with any opinions given, Road Traffic Law is a very complex matter & few of us are in a position to fully understand them. If in doubt get confirmation in Writing from the DVLA/VOSA & we strongly recommend that you take proper legal advice.

HMVF will not be responsible for any legal action taken against members due to following advice given in good faith from a fellow member.

Google Maps Vehicle Security Issue

Due to security implications where collections/vehicles have been pinpointed on Google Maps & simialr or where detailed directions to vehicles are posted, we will now remove without notice any posts where private collections/vehicles are marked on any such maps or directions to the collection/vehicles are posted. This includes any aerial photography of peoples property.

Events.

Please use the forum events calender to post your event & also post them on the Events Board.

There are many well established events in the show season each year & we suggest that if you are thinking of holding a new event that you look carefully at the calender so as not to clash with any other shows, this will be of benefit to all concerned. Any event that we feel may affect an HMVF supported event may be removed without notice.
