Big scrapyard in the sky

Dougy FV432

Question

Hello All,

After a recent event at Ashdown Camp Evesham, where they had a "table top sale". I found myself having not sold much of my collection of "Tat" that I no longer need to hoard. Now I'm not saying that it was all "rare" stuff, but it was stuff that I admit some of it is old and I have no idea what it is. But my main reason for starting this thread is....

At what point do we chuck it all in a box and take it to the scrapyard and weight it in. Also as I have some cables and radio control boxes that some are beyond help, what do we do with them, are there people out there that would be better to dispose them with?

Now I always cringe when I hear that someone scrapped something, as I fear that one day someone will be desperate for that item. But I think some of the above mentioned "tat" is only fit for the scrappers. The stuff that I think may be of use to someone I will post on here and see if anyone is interested or can identify if it is worth saving, other than that, it's of to the big scrapyard in the sky!

Anybody interested in some more pics?

Well here are a couple of the missing ones from last night...

Sealed in their bags

Just about make the label out...

As you can see they're not all radio cables, rear lights, but what vehicle?

20151108_122638.jpg

Anyone know what Radiac refers to, is some sort of sensor?

20151108_122837.jpg

Here are couple of "old" looking ones...

Looks to be a battery link wire?

How about this for a weird one?

If it helps I think the lead pictured above (3 pictures. Sort of bakerlite connection on one end) is from a U.S. Radio headset. I had one years ago and fits the PRC10 series radios. The (bakerlite) connection fitted into the switch box part of the headset lead.

Radiac means a radiation meter.

Andy

Well done Andy, but does anyone have a pic or info when and where it would have been used, was it a "cold" "gulf" war thing?

Thanks for the info Mark, have had a quick looked at a PRC10, looks like a 50s-70s US radio, used in Korea and Vietnam. Could see a lead like mine, but the one plug that goes to the radio does look very similar.

Here's tonight's cables to try to identify...

Not the best pic, but I think it maybe a type of junction for a CVRT?

20151108_124459.jpg

Maybe Larkspur, think both ends were the same and still wrapped in plastic...

20151108_121406.jpg

Has been cut by the looks of it, but interesting plug and has some thing to do with night sights.

20151108_121653.jpg

20151108_121705.jpg

20151108_121711.jpg

A length of BNC cable, unfortunately cut, but question is, is it still worth saving?

20151108_122618.jpg

Another complicated looking cable, I imagine some of means of connecting test equipment?

20151108_123038.jpg

Seeing as we have touched on night sight wiring, here's another. Any ideas what vehicle anyone?

Those six pin jobbies definitely look like Larkspur harness cables. And yes, the BNC cable is worth saving but you may have to cut a couple of inches off the open end if it's been left anywhere damp. BNC connectors are readily available and pretty easy to fit.

Your right about the Larkspur cable although both ends are not the same, its a audio extension lead(well thats what i use it for)

Any boxes available? I need to create a few junctions in my vehicles. If there are boxes with switches I can use them.

I did ask before but got ignored.

This isn't really a thread to sell the items. I am just going through cables and items that I have no use for that I would like to identify to see if they are worth saving and can be used for their intended purpose.

If you have seen a particular item that would be specific for your needs then we can organise you acquiring it.

As a matter of interest I will be at Malvern next Sunday

Hi Dougy,

Is this one available?

It's for a CVRT intercom.

Thanks,

Chris

P.S. I think the boxes in your scrap pile are American.

Hi Chris, I'll put the cable to one side for you, will you be at Malvern?

I think I was once told that the boxes in the scrap pile were possibly M48ish, but nobody has ever been interested in them over the years.

Here's are a pile of bits I have just dragged out of the garage...

20151115_144923.jpg

Here's a closer look at them...

Looks like an equivalent to the Clansman IB3 and CB2 made by Royal Ordnance.

20151115_144932.jpg

20151115_144937.jpg

20151115_144943.jpg

Some sort of case catcher

20151115_144950.jpg

A mini hoist

20151115_144957.jpg

Looks similar to the filter for a fv430 wiper motor, but the plugs are different.

20151115_145004.jpg

No idea what it could be, and unfortunately has a lug broken off.

Here's the rest of the items...

A couple of mast clamps I believe?

20151115_145027.jpg

Another one that I have no idea what it could be

20151115_145032.jpg

20151115_145039.jpg

Some sort of mounting bracket

20151115_145045.jpg

Some sort of strut/extension?

20151115_145049.jpg

Sorry second pic didn't come out very good, but says its a fuel gauge processor

20151115_145126.jpg

A radio filter

20151115_145138.jpg

I believe these boxes may be CVRT?

20151115_145148.jpg

While we were at the Ashdown sale, someone said this head set may be helicopter related?

20151115_145158.jpg

A power supply for BID

20151115_145208.jpg

Some sort of manpack battery, slightly bigger that a Clansman 4AH one

Dougy,

I won't be at Malvern this year, perhaps we can meet up at Stoneleigh?

The catcher bag looks like the one for the chain gun in the Sabre. The other 2 boxes which say 'dummy inverter fitted' are for the Fox/CVRT night sight.

I suppose what I am trying to get to, is as already mentioned. There is the take pictures of all of the items that I feel could be of possible interest. Which I can share on here to help identify, either so that if no interest, I can go down the ebay route. Now straight away, it takes time to "log" everything and upload to here, which starts to mean it "owes" me more than it did. Ebay, lets admit it, it is a pain and expensive for both parties. Posting, postage and fees. The stuff can go on something like Milweb, but again costs and hangs around, basically I want the space so want to move it on sooner rather than later. As there is lots of metal involved, even though prices are not as good as they were, you can see why you hear horror stories of "dealers" scrapping/burning stuff just to get rid off!

Good side is that I have bothered to take some pics today that I will upload to see if any is worth saving.

Dougy

Okay I will say that you don't want to scrap your scrap box, it is at least parts of a vehicle intercom that we use in many vehicles even if they didn't come with one in service, they are great to use to talk to someone in very loud vehicles like the M35's.

uploadfromtaptalk1448895189910.jpg

uploadfromtaptalk1448895391771.jpg

And these cables look like USA radio cables for a 524 or singars unit.

Just a quick update seeing as its past my bed time.

The scrap box above has found a new home, they were handed to their new guardian at Malvern and will hopefully land up in a very interesting project.

I guess thats all your questions answered Dougy !

Obviously what you need to do is get a bigger shed and keep everything !

The whole idea is to downsize and concentrate on one area! Well 2 or 3 actually maybe 4 areas!
