Brewstop
A group of us are interested in buying a Foden DROPS, what do other owners have them registered as? Any pros and cons? Hints and tips for taxation class, registering and general licensing issues? Edited August 1, 2015 by Brewstop

N.O.S.
The vehicle we are interested in is already registered, I'd like to know the collective wisdom on here about options and potential re registering. But what is it registered as? If suited to your purpose why would you want to re-register it? If you need to re-register it because its current registration does not permit you to use it as you wish, I'd have thought you would you be in the same position as if you were trying to register an unregistered example. Goal posts for use of some vehicle types on the public highway have been moved since the first examples were registered, thus preventing further examples from being registered. This should not affect those already registered - unless maybe the registration was achieved by some devious method e.g. misrepresentation of vehicle details, which might then backfire on you the new owner if anything untoward were to happen? p.s. The bit in italics is my own view and may not be correct :coffee: Edited August 2, 2015 by N.O.S.
lowfat
Is it registered as a crane?
cosrec
does not matter so much what it registered as. The problem is the use its being put to if its use is not one that allows certain breeches of C&U regs then its illegal. None of these allow civillians to ride about for pleasure. cosrec
Brewstop you have gone very quite perhaps you have not heard what you wanted to hear or has it confirmed what you suspected and you cant ride about in over width vehicles for pleasure no matter how they are registered. Good point is it brings their price down so you can afford to lowloader them to shows etc.
Brewstop
Cosrec, Been away with work so access to this means has been limited. This thread has confirmed a few things, the particular vehicle we were considering is a rot box so thats out of the equation. The overall speed and roll over characteristics of Foden DROPS don't make it attractive and we're not after one for 'riding about in', it needs to comply with various criteria to make it viable. Lots of advice gratefully received, thank you.
