Warning -***** Carole Nash Insurance policy renewal****

Recommended Posts

My Policy with Carole Nash is just up for renewal and I received a letter stating that it WOULD automatically be renewed.

This is NOT the case as I have just discovered as told by them and the letter was a mistake. If you are sent a letter from Carole Nash stating your policy will be renewed automatically in relation to your Classic Vehicle and you assume it has been then you MAY not be driving around with no insurance, and are advised to ring them and check.

That's interesting, I was with CN and when I phoned them they said NO policies were automatic renewal.

I have now gone to Cherished, not cheaper but far better cover for what i wanted.

They must have told you fibs!

Cherished said I was better of with CN as CN were cheaper! though without heavy breakdown cover!

So I will go with CN and I've registered with RTRUK for breakdown cover (Pay as you go with an initial £50 fee for the recovery if you need it plus £1.50 per mile after the first 10 miles) as CN wanted £99 for heavy breakdown cover!

Not sure they told ME fibs as they addmited they made a mistake with YOUR letter.

As I said I was not looking for cheaper insurance, just better cover for what I need this year (any driver) which CN was NOT prepared to do. I do not beleive in cheap insurance. Of course on the vehicle I have insured with cherished I dont need heavy breakdown...this one is only a Jeep. Our heavies have their own breakdown cover.

Still pays your money takes your chances, none of us will know until we need to claim ( although hope not)

The mistake they admitted to was insuring it as a classic car - so if they (without you knowing) class a vehicle as a classic car and its not and you don't know what they have done then you may not get it automatically insured. despite a letter to the contrary. My vehicle - an Alvis Spartan CVR(T) would not have been automatically insured, though I thought it would.

There is no guarantee cheap or expensive how good your insurance may be - its what it says on the tin that matters or the insurance certificate.

Thanks for link but see their Light Commercial Cover (up to 10 tonnes) would be good except that nothing over 10 YRS old .... so my 72 yr old truck is pushing it!

Their £49 cover plus mileage is for nothing over 3.5 T.....

So really then the mistake was nothing to do with automatic cover renewal, more the fact for the last year your vehicle may NOT have been insured, out of interest are they now covering it at a classic or some thing else.

TBH the whole insurance industry really needs to look in their own back yard, the impression sometimes given is rather than covering your car/vehicle they seem to take the money and look for as many ways to get out of paying up in the event of a claim.

I may well be wrong here, but as I understand it if an insurance company has taken your money you're covered for legal minimum whatever mistakes or omissions are made by either party.

Mmmm thats an interesting thought. Interesting in as far as I wonder what would happen if for example in the case of a claim you had ommited to tell them you had points for licence or you had made a mistake about the CC or size of engine.

IE....Im sorry I meant the engine was a 2200cc not 1400cc........

Its a minefield and WE all need to be aware of just how insurance companies work these days.

A insurance contract is what is known as a "Contract of utmost good faith" , obviously both parties.

I don't like to quote Wiki but for simplicity :

QUOTE.

Thus the insured must reveal the exact nature and potential of the risks that he transfers to the insurer, while at the same time the insurer must make sure that the potential contract fits the needs of, and benefits, the insured.

Reminds me of incidents with a certain nautically named insurance company. In one case they refused to countance my claim because the other driver was 'Insured with a sister company, we don't sue them'. The Insurabce Ombudsman sorted that. The other was , a fine from DVLA for £80 , your vehicle does not apperar on the insurance database. Frothy hot call to DVLA, 'What can I do about it?' answer 'Nothing it is the companies fault'. Then why send me the $%^&*********** Fine? , send it to them!. Nothing futher heard. Then the premium suddenly triples, when enquiring why? answer (Honest to God!) We don't have as many customers this year. Well guess what sunshine? You now have one less!

Our son had a rtc on the 12th Dec and was laid up high on morphine for 3 days in hospital and when released was cared for by us,we reported the accident to the insurers on the 12th dec only to get a snotogram from them xmas eve saying they will not meet the other parties possible claim as the accident was not reported within 24 hours!they were taken aback when i pointed out what had happened and more so when i told them we already had an appointment from there loss adjuster, clowns.

This may a more common thing than you realise as i have had our renewal invite for house insurance and that has the 24 hour crap written into it,as you say happy to take your cash but God forbid if you make a claim, btw the insurer was NOT CN.
