Fire Service National Museum Trust Sale

I don't know how many of you know but at one point there were plans to create a National Fire Service Museum at Weedon in Northamptonshire. Anyway for one reason and another it has never been opened to the public, despite this they have collected a vast number of appliances and other items.

Many have sat outside for nearly a decade so aren't in the best of conditions, some though have been stored inside, although sadly as stated before many haven't and as such have nearly been lost.

Now though it seems that the dream is over as on Saturday 31st August items are being put up for disposal. Viewing and bidding takes place on Saturday with bids being opened on Monday 2nd September.

Why am I telling you this? Well there are a number of items which will no doubt be of interest to members on here with there being appliances from the wartime age being put up for disposal. They include:

1. Austin K4 Escape Carrier: Cornwall FB: GXA 725

2. Austin k4 Pump: Cornwall County FB: MCV 917

3. Austin K2 ATV with trailer pump NFS: GXH 962

4. Bedford MW: Specialist Metals Appliance: UKAEA Aldermaston: RMO 273

There are a total of 18 lots for sale as well as other items of interest.

Now I have no connection to museum or any of the vehicles in question I just felt that it would be interesting for all on here to take a look at. I have attached a couple of items which should explain things further for those interested.

I was talking to Brian Baxter at the REME Museum today, and he told me they did have an MW based Fire vehicle once, but it had been sold off a few months back. It had been rebuilt/restored by a REME workshop before going to the Fire Services Museum.

I did check out the photos mentioned before and there is an OY based vehicle to be seen.

Not sure its a Dennis, could be a Bedford, both carried that type of Miles bodywork

Definatley a Dennis F8/ Miles

The Ford Thames looked rather less loved than it used to!

The OY needs work but is do-able, I will sort a picture out.

I dont know what vehicles sold as yet.

Hi Scott my name is Bob.

I was at the sale and came home with the Austin K2 and a Dennis No 2 pump.

All now running and very low cost by MV standards.

Now just looking forward to the good weather.

Hello Bob,

Excellent news. That is one more saved! As Rog says we always like to see pictures if you would like to share any.

I've just been informed that there is going to be a second sale at Weedon this coming Saturday, May 21.

I haven't seen it advertised anywhere but someone has sent me the attached flyer which has all the details on it and will no doubt be of interest to people on here.

Notable vehicles include:

1/. GXA 797: 1940 Austin K4 AFS Escape Carrier with correct 50ft wheeled escape and front-mounted Barton pump.

2/. KCE 820: 1952 Dennis F8: The factory prototype Serial No 001. In need of restoration but a unique example of this model.

3/. NSL 418: 1955 Austin Champ Light HrT: only one of three in UK built for civilian fire service use. In full running order

The F8 taken at Expo in the 1980's

And here it is now, a picture I took on Saturday. Would have been surprised if it sold, along with any of the other vehicles as there were only about a dozen people in attendance throughout the 90 minutes we were there.

Have attached a couple of other photos as well, including the Austin Champ.
