A lot of people have an iPhone so why not post a list of useful (and our hobby related) iPhone apps here? With a link for easy download, of course! Not all are free but not all the best things in life are free :cool2:

Pocket locations:

At last an app arrives that details exactly the major D-Day landing sites and other places of interest along the Normandy coastline and further inland.

I have a Samsung with 3Mobile at the moment, and the contract will be up in a month or so. Seriously thinking about an iPhone, but.... the exam question is, "is it worth the extra £5 or 10 a month over an Android phone". Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers Vulture

YES. My eldest daughter got an Android phone after an iphone3 and regreted it. I have an iphone4S which has been very good, but use a decent network like Vodafone for best results. 3 is not the best network by any means. As you're not on Vodafone now, changing to them might get you a cheap iphone.

There is an iphone5 coming out in 6-12 months so you could wait for it.

iPhones are very good, but many of my collegues have switched to the Samsung Galaxy 2S which in some ways has the edge over the iPhone4. Nevermind iPhones, what you need is an iPad, whatever you think, once you have used one, you will never want to be without one!

My mate has just changed his iPhone for the Galaxy, reckons it knocks spots off the iPhone.

What can you do with a Galaxy that you cant do with a HTC Desire as I have one which is coming up for upgrade? I like it for the picture libraries & data such as vehicle parts books stored in pdf, database of my military documents etc. I have no need to twit or face etc

I avoid "i" products because not only does the marketing seem to have an expensive arrogance but also their products take too much control eg We have 2 i-pods unfortunately when connected to the PC it takes it upon itself to wipe what's on one & impose what the PC last put on the other one without asking me.

  • 1 year later...

I looked at the HTC range when it was time to chop in my awful Blackberry model Clive. the gent in the Vodafone store showed me the HTC and the Galaxy S2 - both were free upgrades as I have a contract. What swung it for me was the amount of internal memory available on the S2. Not looked back or regretted the choice once.

I like the Android system - more open than the Apple IPhone thus more free apps.....

Neil well after a few months of the original HTC contract expiring I continued to use it but found battery consumption was increasing even with new ones. So I changed to S2 as well.

What I didn't like about the HTC newer range. You cannot remove the battery for last ditch reboot or replace it in a couple of years. Furthermore no external card so that when the phone dies there is stuff trapped inside.

Only one thing I don't like about the S2 is that it goes in phases of locking up & warming up. This happens once every few weeks or sometimes every day. But been ok for several weeks now. Cured by removing battery to reboot. But sometimes the battery has been flattened.

On forums it seems a very widespread problem. Nobody has a definitive answer or cure. The wise & knowledgeable will say remove some apps as they are clashing. But I have not installed any apps, I'm very wary of the dross that is out there that people seem only to have to install. Yet wouldn't install on their PC.

Perhaps S3 has cured it as my wife has one of those & has none of these problems. I've got 18 months to run before I can change to S4 or maybe S5 by then!
