Lauren Child
I stumbled across this old unanswered thread while searching and figured it was worth a link for others who may be searching. This website - http://www.lerenfort.fsnet.co.uk/page53N.htm has a helmet with yellow anti-gas paint (or at least it was....)
Neilie
Mike Starmer, the expert in British military colours, in his Book "British Army Colour & Disruptive Camouflage in the United Kingdom, France & NW Europe 1936-45" describes gas warning paint as "originally a yellow ochre colour usually about 9 inches or 12 inches across, which changed colour to a bright red in the presence of Mustard Gas......repeated in 1944 orders although by then the bonnet patch and tray may not have been used although by then a less obvious and greener camouflage coloured paste approxiating Khaki Green was in use." Hope this helps. Cheers, Neil
chrisgrove
Mike also suggests Humbrol 81 pale yellow as being about right for the BEF era anti-gas paint. Chris
LarryH57
Out of interest was Gas Warning Paint used on RAF and RN vehicles that were used IN THE UK?
RAFMT
RAF vehicles, yes, but I don't know about RN. Although the AMOs state the patch should be irregular in shape, and from September '43 there should be 2 patches, not just one.
