No, I don't have one but I'd like to have one. In fact I often hear of people who would like one yet I have not come across anyone in the UK who owns one. Practical Classics had one as a price a year or two ago but that needed a fair amount of work.

There are absolutely masses of them still in service in eastern Europe and "socialist friends" of the former Soviet Union. Shouldn't be too difficult to find one in Europe. They were about the best of that class of vehicle produced east of the Elbe.

I'm well aware of that - I know several dealers who can supply them. I was interested in finding out if there are any current owners in the UK.

Journey was trouble free. The Uaz ran well and ate a lot of petrol. No issues at the border this time. It is surprisingly comfortable to drive on the road. It had only driven 500km in past 13 years so I'm pleasantly surprised it coped that well with the 1100km drive.

I have managed to convert a LR solenoid to fit the Robur starter. Just need a free weekend to fit it. I seem to spend every weekend on the continent at the moment. This weekend its Germanys turn.

PS: Ask your Mrs if I get a discount if I rent any more garages ;)

Apparently Southern Electric (SEB) bought 14 of these in the early 1980's, so there may well be some in the UK that have actually worked here, as opposed to recent imports.

So says a friend of mine who is a bit of a SEB nut (no, I'm not sure why either) anyway. Don't think he has any photos sadly.

These were available rhd in the U.K. in the late '70's/early '80's and exhibited at the Smithfield show. They were sold through 'Belarus' tractor dealerships. There was a van, minibus, and a dropside pickup truck but I seem to remember it was not Uaz, more something like Belaz. I did have all the sales brochures and road tests at one time but I've slept since then so little chance of finding them now.:(

I have had several since my 1st imported RHD in 1980 which was an ex demonstration van from UMO plant in doncaster.

I still have the english hand book, sales price list & brochure. Sadley this was in a sever collision in 1982.

I then found another RHD van version up for sale in the heart of London by a garage that couldn't make it go? after 6 hours fixing the brakes & making a temporary accelerator jet for the carb out of a 6mm bolt, I drove 250mile back home with no bother. I think the 7500 miles on the clock were right as it went on to serve my buisness for many years untill the tin body work surcummed to perils of rust!

I rescued a RHD pick up from a scrap yard in Berwick on Tweed which we ran for another 5 years before it went the way of all metal. ( I did find out there was an adjent at Long Framlington called Dennis Common but he has stopped about 10years or more ago.

I currently run a LHD ambulance version from the Cheq repulic which I bought in 2007 with 2500 Km on the clock & has been kept liecenced & mot'd ever since but is used mainley in the winter or off road. Starts 1st time every time, the only thing replaced was the fuel pump. (diaphams don't like un leaded ). It came with all the military night light gear, 3 stretchers etc.

If anyone needs 452 advice i would be pleased to assist but it would be best to email me as I'm sometimes in France.

Ace. good to hear there is another road runner, was thinking i was the only road legal one in country (2nd including Ireland) Great to drive, i use mine weekly as a 2nd car in the family, taking kids out and running to work in it. Goes really well, always starts, sometimes needs to crank a bit to get fuel up, but at least it gets oil pumping around my poorly crank . Think im just over 41000 km on the clock, not sure how many there designed to last! My tin rot was painted over before i got it, its slowly bubbling through.
