les freathy
Isuppose these should be in the books section but afraid i cant work out how to load items in that section, any way two excellent books have recently been released by Alan House and Tony Gibbs. The first by Alan is titled HOME FRONT TRANSPORT vehicles of the UK civil defence services, as the title suggests the book covers a wide range of vehicle types used by the civil defence including diverted and ex military. the extensive text has been well researched and gives a good insight to the way the organisation worked from 1938 to 1968 as well as vehicle allocation numbers and details on activitys both in WW2 and PW. A large selection of photos of good quality are included these being half plate size this book is well recomended and is available from Alan House at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services HQ, Leigh Road, Eastleigh. Hants S050 9SJ. Cost including postage in the UK is £19.75 cheques made payable to HFRS. STERLING T26 DISCOVERED The second book is also a labour of love and if heavy American military trucks are for you this book is a must. This 220 page hardback book has taken many years to research by Tony in conjunction with the original designer Steve Hodges in the states,. I still have to complete reading the text but can see no stone has been left unturned in the research, the photos that accompany the text are stunning and really open your eyes to the design of the huge Stirling T26 12 ton tractor the book is not amongst the cheap range and because of its speciality i would not expect it to be but these days you get what you pay for and this book is well worth the money. Priced at £36.50 including UK postage it is available from Tony Gibbs 6 Tarleton Gardens Forest Hill London SE23 3XN, if you want one dont delay as they are on a very limited production run
Snapper
Cheers Les, By all means send reviews to me by email and I will arrange them going up front. I am swamped with work at the moment, which is why things are a little slow on this...disapponting to me, but can't be helped. MB
