  1. Nice ex RAF Regiment Spartan , good to see some pictures ...........diesel mentioned ?
  2. No I pinched 48AT88 , sounds as though you got a vehicle from 2 Sqn or 15 Sqn based at RAF Hullavington. Some pictures on here would be nice.
  3. The plate missing from the rear compartment !!! Iam wondering if this is the one I took when my Sqn "lost" it's CVRT...do you know the reg?:cool2:
  4. yep still follow it, it was me who sent you pic via email of this one being ued as a wedding car on the squadron I was on (51 Sqn RAF REGT):cool2:
  5. As a EX RAF REGIMENT GUNNER , I think it is a good project , crack on, I was on CVRT , I do not think enough recognition is given to the RAF REGIMENT.
  6. Yes the RAF Bomb Disposal did use cvrt Scimitar and Spartan......we called them The Pengy tank......us RAF Regt types took the p 1 ss out of thier crews, they used them as a heavily bombed airfield would present some obsticles and the Rarden would be good at distant detonation of ordenance
  7. one stands corrected........it's been nearly 20 years since my last track bashing!!!:-(
  8. CVRT We started with 64 links for a new track and when it got to 62 a new track was put on, I crewed CVRT in the RAF Regiment for 15 years, you'll find links stretch , a natural habit for metal under stress.
  9. In all the bashing / driving in the military I did how the **** do you bend/mis align a idler arm....must be some new trait, or abuse in the scrap yard. The idler arm only moves in two directions up and down, and compresses in and out. So these MUST have been struck VERY violently from an outside force , most likely from complete vehicle being dropped onto it in the scrap yard....may I suggest you check the hull. And to kill a rumour the track on a tank only travels as fast as the vehicle travels forward it is the de acceleration from 30 to 0 mph that is the stress giver.....ANOTHER THREAD i HAVE READ. EXROCK ie Ex RAF Regiment CVRT Driver/ Commander:cool2:

    Saxon

As a cvrt crew commander at RAF Catterick in the Regiment I lost count of the times I heard ''can you come and pull my Saxon out of the mud'' .....Saxon must have been the most useless piece of off road vehicle in military history, as once we got there it was stuck by only a miniscule:blush: rut.
  11. just been looking at the pics (bw ones) of the armoured cars..... the roundel ontop would suggest early RAF Regiment 1ACS.
  12. read somewhere that after a clean/service this beast started!!!!!
  13. CVRT capable with J60 of 70 MPH, but limited to 50 MPH, that was the official line we were given in the RAF Regt.:nut::cool2:
  14. We did but it was 1 Sqn with Scorpions and a few Spartans, 51 cvrt was left behind......NO transport for thier cvrt.....the sad state of the military as it is now
