  1. I thought that I'd put some photos up of my 'project Explorer'. As you can see from the photos, I bought it in running order but my aim is to strip-down and rebuild, checking all major components and making adjustments where required or desired. I will try to post more photos / information as progress continues. Sam.
  2. Oh, do you know who it is Thor? Must have been a while ago, it was still on a 'Q' plate there.
  3. Good plan, i'll add that to the list. It definetly needs lubrication being something reasonably exposed and rarely used.
  4. Ah cheers Andy. I might give it some heat on Saturday. It seems mad that everywhere you look under an explorer there is a grease nipple, but that shaft doesnt have one at all.
  5. Thanks for the pics Thor, nice to see it when it was a little tidier. I think the guy standing behind the Scammell is the previous owner (I recognise the rigger boots). The old thing is going to be put to work this weekend, after a long rest, I've got to winch some trees out of a big hole, i've got the winch drum freed off, but the brake lever shaft is solid. I hope i'll have enough room behind the vehicle to use the winch without a brake unless the plus gas works miracles.
  6. Hi Andy, thanks for the kind words. I know where there is a crane and i've asked if it could be made available. Would be nice to see the old thing with a crane and side lockers again.
  7. Thanks 'Protruck', it'll need plenty of work, I'm looking forward to the challenge. Thanks for the info about the gearbox pump, 'rbrtcrowther' I'll make sure that I check this out. I read in a previous thread that the gearbox pump doesn't work between R and 1, even the previous owner didn't know about that and he had two explorers. I've got no other big toys, I've had plenty of Land Rovers and I look after a traction engine, but the Scammell is all new to me really. She's got a RR eagle 220 under the bonnet.
  8. Just thought that i'd put a few pictures here of my new Explorer. I got it back on Thursday, and i've been working out what everything does (or doesn't do). If anyone has any photos of it in the past, i'd be grateful to see them. Restoration will begin after i've had some fun with it. 94 BD 54 - 913 UXM - 1955 Sam.
  9. Ah, Adrian of course I did see the sign outside your yard. Can you PM me with a price? I think you're right but it'd be good to know. I'm D. Tyes grandson by the way.
  10. I currently rent a small workshop + yard 5 miles north of Ipswich. My Landlord had a minor fit when I told him that i'd bought a Scammell Explorer. I was wondering if anyone has a building to rent, i could use something larger as my toys seem to be getting bigger. Thanks, Sam.
