  1. My dad was i/c the S E London Mass X Ray unit based out of the above New Cross Hospital in Avonley Road during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. IIRC it closed down 1980 and he retired - prior to that the unit covered SE London out to Bromley and area but on occasion went to military establishments such as RARDE (he had been a Welch Regiment officer until 1941 when completed his training at Morriston Hospital and transfered as an RMO to North Devon Yeomanry 25pdr Field Regiment then in N. Ireland, later in Western Desert. Later a base hospital alongside the 'Sweetwater canal' S of Cairo and then back to UK as RMO Sherwood Foresters for D Day. Leg shattered in accident while loading his medical team on an LCI at Portmouth, at end of war British MO on trooping ship US Victory ship 575 SS Colorado Springs. 1960s - 70s kit based at New Cross definitely those Leyland mobile X Ray lorries and ex Army AA Lister generators, which were towed by the big Leylands, but commonly shunted into awkward locations by SWB Landrovers, which regularly and rapidly used to knock out the LR front ends.. All vehicles that old medical cream exterior paintwork.. What there was at New Cross for many years until about mid/late 70s was the original Ministry of Works X Ray vehicle, i believe of immediate postwar date, usual body with left hand side ramp for the mobile X ray set; based on Dennis Pax 5-6 ton chassis, i tried to rescue it to Woolwich Bus Museum land, but v sadly it was taken locally and scrapped suddenly one day for its 100kV inbuilt generator; had a wonderful rear interior with varnished brown wood panelling, multiple heated film drying racks and china sinks..Again iirc, i had several documents from it, and may 'somewhere' still have a leaflet from it.. dare say more info too..
  2. Top photos is of an WSC of C Squadron of the Inns of Court (Armoured Car) Regiment, RAC at their post D Day operations harbour at Le Fresne-Camilly in Normandy, under command 1 Corps, where a fire broke out amongst vehicles (trucks carrying ammunition iirc ). They had a few WSCs at Squadron command level - usually with rollers removed..
  3. Hahaha.. Cent, no thanks, maybe something less obvious, wheeled and armoured, but have quite enough maintenance jobs in my life already, thanks..:)
  4. Thanks very much obliged.... always had a suspicion was most likely for a Cent..
  5. Orginally posted a query in 2010 trying to identify to what weapon and vehicle this related to...still trying to identify - can anyone now help, please ? Box was unopened and item nos when i obtained it, only opened it to see....marked 're-packed 1960 ', so dates to between then and start date of FV nomenclature...
  6. Thanks..will post an extra photo.. I see Radicon still exists, i'll get a model no. and contact them to see what they say..
  7. I did find some wartime references to Martin Harper pto's... ..this one June 1944..
  8. Under the non original, postwar constructed, breakdown truck body on the rear of my Bedford MW, there is a winch... obviously should not be there, so will be coming off and seeking a good home... in place of the usual tyre pump on the gearbox, there is a pto with a manufacturer's plate stating 'Martin Harper', driving a propshaft on the nearside approx 6 foot long to the winch which is siting behind the rear axle; this second propshaft has necessitated the shortening of the exhaust pipe just behind the silencer box, and the repositioning of the nearside shock absorber arm to a near vertical position, all of which has to be corrected after removal. The winch has the initials DBS on its housing, and in awkward place to photo, the name Kadicon or Sadicon near tbe cable drum.. Can anyone please tell me more, ie is it of a QLB or maybe a Canadian vehicle...and is this wartim, or a postwar kit to fit any Bedford gearbox..? More photos to follow
  9. Just a thought.....what size wheels and tyres does it / should it have...?
  10. There might well be 2, but this one was at Foulness with the tail of tbe trail embedded in a concrete block, and cut off so could be removed quuickly from the site - when i said Zonnebeke, i had been aware that a restored one had been loaned or at least exhibited at that Belgian museum which is near Passchendaele.. no idea about its pre-Rage history.. Did it come from the UK south coast..?
  11. That's the one that was at Zonnbeke, isn't it...? I nearly had that out of the mud in theb Uk yard where it lay...
