  1. Hi Phil thanks a lot for the reply - I’ve managed to find solid dowel pins so it looks as if I’ll have to drill the top ones out. I’ll keep my eyes out for the turret bits. All the best Richard
  2. Hi All I'm refurbishing the floor of the Scorpion and have managed to get new rollers from Xmod. However I am struggling to get the hollow pins requires as axles. I'm sure that they should be a standard engineering part but I can't find anything that isn't a spring pin. Does anyone have a source? Many thanks Richard
  3. Fantastic work as always Phil. Coincidentally I am also refurbishing the turret basket. Looking at the pictures it seems that it comes out through the NBC pack - is it a difficult operation? I've removed the bearing fittings and have replacement bearings but I cannot locate a source for the hollow pins. I'd rather replace them than re-use the originals and wondered where you managed to get yours All the best Richard
  4. We think that the HDA stands for High Duty Alloys and the RR50 for Hiduminium the alloy developed by Rolls Royce Richard
  5. A friend has bought this on the basis that it looks interesting. However we don't have a clue what it is. It looks like some form of sighting equipment, but for what or attached to what is a mystery. There are some markings on it which are copied below. Any ideas? Richard
  6. Hi Chris That's substantial! I've nothing like that at all, nor have I had since owning the vehicle. I've used an earth strap and passed it from the front of the engine to a bolt I've drilled and tapped into the sponson between the air filter and the alternator. I'm hoping that this will be enough to cure a slight problem I've had with it earthing through the throttle return spring. Many thanks for your help Richard
  7. Hi Chris Many thanks - I don't have anything like that. I do have an earth strap that goes from the block back to the starter motor - is this correct? I can't find an attaching point on the hull near the alternator other than the bulkhead fixing bolts. There is a small threaded hole on the bulkhead on the engine side behind the alternator belt tensioner, would this serve the purpose? Cheers Richard
  8. Hi Is there a separate earth lead from the J60 to the hull and if so where does it connect? Many thanks Richard
  9. Hi I'm looking to finish the markings on my Scorpion. It represents a vehicle from C Sqn 4RTR in the early eighties. I cannot find any information about the divisional number seen on the front / rear. The format is 2/10 or something like that in 2 inch white/grey. Does anyone have any information? Many thanks Richard
  10. It's a great feeling when they burst into life like that! It looks really good and I'll add a second belt in the same way that you have. Richard
  11. Looks lovely as ever. Just a word of warning about the fan and fan belt. We tried to attend a Poppy Day event but broke down on the way there as the fan belt shredded. It turns out that the alignment between the engine, gearbox pulley and fan pulley is critical as if it is out the belt can creep and self destruct. When I refit the new one I'm going to use an incinometer to make sure it's spot on! Richard
  12. I worked on a government site near Heathrow and all our buildings had 2 letter codes. ZA,DA,HA, etc. The letters bore no relationship to their use and didn't seem to be based on any grid so we never knew how they were labelled. They had certainly been there for some time as the site was in use during the war
  13. Hi Try Graham at PTS Norfolk http://www.ptsnorfolk.co.uk/index.php/12/536262/ Good bloke - always happy to help
  14. Hi The RBJ plugs are avaialable from Ellison Electronics (tel 01277 626300) Their reference is SBMS3106E2219P. It's a 14 pin connector but not all the pins are used. Richard
  15. That's really looking good. This winter's job here is to clean and refurbish the turret internals and I'd like that to involve taking the tube and breech out as you have done. Is it possible to do without removing the turret? It's an offence here to reactivate a deactivated firearm so I won't be drilling the plug out but it's interesting to see how it can be done. Any tips that would help Quick picture of mine at the Rememberance Day collection in Plymouth
