  1. I am advertising this for a friend. It starts on the button and runs really well. It is in good order, contact Brian on 01799 584448, mobile07702710965 or email Greenblackbird@hotmail,com 10000 pounds or near offer. Essex area.
  2. Having just bought myself a new project, I am looking for a complete radar and it's dish to complete the outside of the truck. I live in the Essex area, but willing to travel for a radar.
  3. I have seen these disc's on the rear between the support arms on the back, but mine came stored away on the front above the front axle. I soon realized they were for the feet of the support legs to use to increase the foot print on soft ground. My question is why the different shapes in each plate ?
  4. Thank you Keith, alway's nice to have photo's to look at and see what is missing from mine, and straight away, after being on top of mine this afternoon, I noticed the raised box on top is missing from mine, so it is interesting as to what it might be, so I can try and replicate it. Mark.
  5. Here are the photo's of the radar truck. Based on it being five tons, therefore I did not pay too much for it if it's 80 ponds a ton scrap.
  6. We have an auction near by and one of the items is a "radar truck' which to me, is a trailer towed behind a lorry. It has several window apertures which can be opened and supported on side plates I assume to prevent bullets entering the "truck' It would have had radar equipment in it in it's previous military life. My question is what is it worth ? the outside is in good working order, no rust and has all it's lights, the tow frame is complete. It will need 4 tyres as the one on it look original. Thanks in anticipation of the answers.
  7. Here is a few hours work, I gradually undone the bolts working out way's to make the job easier as I went along. Now all I have to do is make a new outer shell and slowly rebuild the original strengthening plates back into the unit. Watch this space.
  8. There are many job's restoring anything under the umbrella of restorations, but this has to be one of the most time filling moments of any restoration, undoing nuts and bolts that have become rock solid in their components. I had to use heat and a pair of mole grips to remove some of the 2BA bolts that hold the inner panel to the frame, and where I could not use mole grips to unscrew the broken off lengths of rusty bolt, I drilled very carefully and then re tapped them. However I was successful in every single one. Very happy to have completed that task. The next two photo's show the very sad bottom of the door that contains the lower hinge and limiter that allows the door to open only so far.. I have cut the whole section from the cross brace that the window runners go down too, right to the bottom of the door. I intend making a new section and re-welding it back in. So far only one countersunk screw has come undone out of a possible 6, so tomorrow i shall be fresh, and a second attempt at removing the remaining screws.
  9. With the boards now dry, they are stored out of harms way for fitting in the summer. It is now time to make a start on repairing the doors. The first one off the lorry is the passenger one. I don't think this is any different from the drivers door. There appears to be signs of a repair in the past, so this will need to be taken into account as far as the repairs go. I removed the inner panel from the frame, and as I had no idea what was behind the metal section, I was loathed to use much heat to try and free up the Philips screws, so as you can imagine not one came undone, so I cut each one off and now I can see there is nothing that come to harm so heat might be used to undo the remaining threaded section. The lower section of door that the lower hind is secured to, is very corroded, and will need to be removed carefully and a new section made and welded into place.
  10. Just a little bit of rain has fallen just lately, so I have changed the course of work for the sake of sanity. The boards were cut and shaped back in the summer, so it is now a good time to cover them in something to preserve them for a good few years, I hope. They have been in my hot workshop for the last few months, so are a dry as they can be, and this showed up in the amount of preserver they soaked up, they were really hungry, and soon empty the brush of the contents, meaning a regular dip in the pot is necessary to cover the surface. My workshop is 12 feet across it's width, and 24 feet long, and with the boards laid out to work the preserver into them, take up nearly all the available space. Next job, that passenger side door.
  11. I bet you look like you have been down a mine all day. What do you use to scrape off all the dirt ? The Governor.
  12. Sam, that main chassis looks like it's been welded. Has it ? The Governor.
  13. After 9 years of ownership, I have managed to get the lorry under cover away from the worst of the weather. The good thing about dutch barns is the vehicles have air around them to dry them off when they become condensated. Now I know it fit's, I have peace of mind knowing it has a home when it is eventually finished. The Governor.
  14. The Autumn is nearly upon us, so the window of opportunity to work on the Scammell when the weather and temperature is perfect to paint is fast running out. This means the lorry would be better parked under it's dutch barn, than left out in all weathers to deteriorate back to where I started. So a big effort to put all the air brake system back was made. It will be another day to start up the engine and test for leaks, but more important will be to move it under the cover. This does not mean that work will stop till next year, as I have thew two doors to repair which can be done in the workshop with a lovely wood burner to keep me warm. The Governor.
  15. That is looking very nice. I like your attention to detail. The Governor.
