  1. Hi all been held up by this bolt i what to get rust out of the spring it looks to unscrew after lock nut and locking saddel are removed i have had some heat and a 10 foot handal but no luck i wonder if it ruduces from 1 1/4to 1/2 and goes right through spring to locatet it ?
  2. Hi all been back at it started with gear box and worked forard . Now onto engine looking back it was 2015 18 when i was last at it and one forgets i thought the motot was good enough it would run . however it needs the block pining a valve seat and four sleaves of as much concearn is the fact that its been runing without the oil pump suction filter refure pic . There was 10lt of mud higher than the picup with 15lt of oil on top so pulling sump to chech oil system and pull no 3 to see whats going on there . the engine is booked in with the local old school recondioner whos done simmiler work for me befor on a fordson f engine 20221026_120838.mp4
  3. They run from the rear right block to crankcase flange to about the mid point
  4. Been working on engine gesrbox and reconecting thougt i had better befor i forgot were bits went got some pics. Found some nos on block
  5. Hi i believe its bb4190 could never find the chassis no must have another look b
  6. Hi all bit of an up date had been out of action for a couple of years now had both knees replaced . After checking new gear would work the box was striped down to get all the rust out .and there it sat now done and back in sub frame a mate made a new drain plug which was missing its the same as the diff . many years ago i was given a bb4 engined j model manual which is very helpful the attached was in the back of it i thought it may be of interest b
  7. interesting to see in the period 81/ 90 i was a mortarman and these things or there equivalent were our nemesis we had to be able to fire pac up to shift 300m or so in under 3 minutes as that was the caulated time for a radar directed response and i think 2m from pull up emplaced bubbled up and ready for a fire mission
  8. had a look as well didn't look more than 30 ft however if it were twin engined the stated figures would be close
  9. got me tossed on the face of it its a pre war 21 stud 221 cu motor with the divers bell dizzi rated at 85 hp 95 with alloy heads the the 1940 on 24 stud 239 is still only a 100 . the 337 from the 50/s has a rear mounted dizzy as does the cadillac flaty used here in oz in a few ww2 military applications
  10. Hi have been doing a bit just got reverse gear back now to see if it works
  11. Hi have been doing a little we managed to source a radiator thats copy quality the old one got mislaid. on inspection of the stuck gearbox which we knew had no reverse we found it had no plug in it was dry and had a rats nest in it. So after a rinse it was filled with oil and left to soak a few days latter we put a spanner on the top shaft and with gentle rocking after an afternoon it came free. It’s now off getting a new gear cut. The gear appears quite fragile over the drive key after allowing for the depth of teeth refers to pics there is not a lot left. the reverse idler the loose gear and shaft in pics is constant mesh and had sized we suspect causing the breakage it had wiped out bearing material that had splayed out and jammed it on the case it took quite a lot of getting out
  12. Hi Steve haven't posted for awhile as we haven't done much more managed to get a radiator patten quality but have continued to follow yours with great interest so much is the same or simmelar to our bb4 engined q . i was particularly taken by your recent twisting chassis clutch problem i had a look back through some of your pictures but couldn't see is your motor bolted directly to the chassis our Q has a sub frame same as the picture of one of yours on page 27 that had people confused it has a large rubber mount at the front the crank handle goes thou the middle and it bolts to the A cross member and the rear of it hangs from the B and it holds the engine gearbox in line in my pictures i have attached some wheels to it so we can roll it round for got i started new thread b thornycroft Q bb/4
  13. Hi heres some shots of the muffler from our 1924 bb4 q it was complete when recovered note that the clamping rod is 1 Mt long but may not be original its been awhile the ends are handed the rear the fish-plate is inserted and held with a split pin looks right the other end has a machined shoulder that would go into pipe and be clamped note the three studs in each end holding a baffle from memory there were two pipes pierced and opened at opposite ends held together with more baffles hole lot was hanging under left rear of engine sub frame by i think brass clamps and wing nuts the use of wing nuts on this truck all ways got me like on the top of gearbox and diff b
