This year there were 20 more jeeps so I think you all need to get your Land Rover's out to see if the number of Land Rovers can be higher than jeeps. You have 12 months to do this. in 2010 when we had year of the Jeep there were 180 jeeps. The only time Land Rover numbers have been higher than jeeps was in 2018 with Year of the Land Rover. There were 111 Land Rovers.

On Friday 13th March we have a function organised at the Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club across the road from Ball Park Caravan Park where there will be a meal followed by a driver's briefing then we are hoping a number of people will get up and talk about their experiences of attending the swim-in. Whether you have been going for many years, a few years or for the first time we encourage people to share their stories. When you come to the site office you will be asked to put your name down if you will be attending this function. This will give the club an idea of the numbers of people they will be catering for. This is also when some of the Number Plates will be auctioned. If you don't want to attend the meal you are welcome to come across and join in the celebrations. Keith Webb has put together an interesting DVD on the 40 years of The Corowa Swim-in and will release his DVD covering last years event. There are less than 40 of the sequential number plates left so if you want to secure a number let us know. If anyone would like to do a shift on the site office or help with mustering vehicles for the parade let us know. This event needs people to volunteer some time. From Wednesday to Friday there are some interesting trips planned and we will have route cards at the site office and will ask you put your name down if you are planning to attend. Program of Activities: Route cards for all the trips will be available at the Site Office - make sure you put your name on the lists if you intend to do a trip. Wednesday 11th March: 9am: Departure from Ball Park. Thursday 12th March: Depart Ball Park at 10am. for trip to Howlong: -Arrive at the Park across the road from the Howlong Public school or pre-school at 11am, this gives us an hour to drive the 30km involved and park up. -When the visit at Howlong schools finishes, we can make our way to the main street of Howlong for lunch. There are a few options for lunch in Howlong however it can be up to the individual to source their own lunch. -1pm depart Howlong and drive to the Avro Anson landing site for a look. This will take about 20 minutes to get to as it is 13km from Howlong. There is about 8km of well-formed gravel road. -After 10 or 15 minutes at the landing site we drive to Brocklesby which is about 17km from the landing site. Here we stop at Blacksmith Park for a cuppa and a talk about the Avro Anson crash and at 2pm the kids from the Brocklesby school will wander over for a look at our vehicles. -Everyone to make their own way back to Ball Park. Stop at the Balldale Hotel if open. Friday 13th March: 7:30-9:00am: KVE BBQ at Ball Park Caravan Park 9:00am: Trip ending up at Wooragee for lunch. 5. It is great to see sometimes up to 8 entries each day either by email or in the post. You have up until the 28th February to get your entries in. Remember to come along to Keith Webb's talk at the Football Club which is opposite Ball Park Caravan Park on Friday 14th March. The Footy Club will be selling food and drinks from approx. 5pm so there are no excuses for people not to have a feed before listening to the parade briefing at 7:30pm and following this will be Keith's talk. Lets support the local Footy Club.
  6. Just a reminder to get your entry forms in for 2014. We were successful once again with a Tourism Grant from the Corowa Shire. We have sent in our order for Caps and stubby holders along with stickers which will be advertising the 2015 event. For an Entry fee of $15 you will receive all the promotional items including a Plaque. (Where do you get such value for money?). Look at our updated website: www.corowaswim-in.org fort he latest newsletter only released last week. There is also an Entry form on there plus a form to complete if you are going to have a swap meet site. For those requiring a site you must book in ASAP especially if requiring one undercover. Richard emailed out the newsletters this time so if you didn't receive one please send an email to kveinc@optusnet.com.au
  7. Hi all We will be giving you some updates on the 2014 event over the next few weeks. We had out AGM in August and the Committee is now: President - Scott Rough Vice President - Harvey Black Treasurer - Ben Hemmings Secretary & Public Relations Officer- Jan Thompson Committee- Richard Farrant, Robert Pearce & Neville Smith Official Trips Planned: Wednesday: Trip to Mulwala area Thursday: Visit to the Corowa Primary School & proposed trip to Puckapunyal Friday: Trip to Howlong area Guest speaker: on Friday evening Keith Webb and we will advise you shortly of the venue. Parade: We will have an official parade on Saturday morning leaving from Bangerang Park promptly at 9am. We advise participants to commence lining up from 7:30am. We successfully applied to the Corowa RSL for a grant and we will be able to have the streets of Corowa closed off for the parade. Showgrounds: this year we will have the Showgrounds available from Thursday to Sunday for people with Swap Meet sites only. Last year the final number of participants who used the Showgrounds indicated that this is not a preferred camping area so in 2014 participants who want to camp should be contacting Ball Park Caravan Park (who now have more powered sites), Bindaree Motel and Caravan Park and Rivergum Resort who will reduce their charges for camping and unit accommodation for our participants. Publicity: Mark Fletcher, known as 'Fletch' from the Channel 44 show 'ClassicRestos' will be with us again from Wednesday to Friday. He will be filming on Thursday and we will be looking for people to interview so we get a cross section of vehicles. Swap Meet: Sites for the Swap Meet will be available from Thursday and at this stage Jan McKenna from the Show Society will be organising the sites. There will be official paperwork available shortly and people will have the choice of undercover and outdoor sites. (In the interim please forward me a message if you are planning to have a Swap Meet Site.) Saturday evening: We have decided to change out plan for Saturday evening. From 8pm until approximately 9pm we will have presentations and an opportunity for people planning future events to talk to the other participants. This will include a talk by the Corowa RSL on their plans for 2015. Sunday: There will be an AGM and General Meeting held on Sunday morning. KVE members and participants of the event are welcome to attend. Sunday evening dinner: The final activity of the event will be a dinner at the Corowa RSL. As they are a major sponsor we hope those who are still in town come along.
  8. Hi all The latest KVE newsletter has just been released. Thanks to Richard for compiling this and also thanks to all who have contributed. Over the next couple of days I will get it emailed out to all on my database so if you don't receive a copy send me a message and I will make sure you are on the database. We are always interested in stories from our participants so if you have anything other readers may be interested in please forward to kveinc@optusnet.com.au
  9. The response from the Australians who either saw the show or are going on line to look at it has been great. Fletch is currently over in the United States doing another series of Route 66. He is interested in going into other countries to film events and help different organisations with promotions of their events.
  10. For people who aren't able to get Classic Restos on their TV they will be able to see it on a website for probably a couple of weeks from Friday 19th April. If you go onto the website and down near the bottom of the screen you will see 3 Classic Resto programs. The one to click on is the episode which airs on 18th April. It is not as sharp as seeing it on the TV so let me know if you want a copy which is extremely good quality. All the money raised will go towards having Fletch at our 2014 event and we hope he may be able to do more than one show. You never know in the future he may do a Series of 13 titled 'Classic Military Vehicles'. http://www.c31.org.au/program/view/p...classic-restos For people who have Gold Channel 84 in Australia the show will be seen in about 4 months. Those in the UK are currently 4-6 months behind.
  11. Today I caught up with Fletch and I now have the DVD from the Corowa event. All who were interviewed are in the DVD along with other vehicles who were in attendance. It is a great coverage of our event and all money raised from the sales of DVD's will go back into having him attend next year. I am impressed at the number of people who want copies and will be able to let you know how much KVE will charge per copy shortly after the Committee makes a decision.
  12. This is the first time he has covered a military vehicle event and it wont be the last! He plans to continue attending our Swim-In at Corowa and has had discussions with some of us about going to the UK. I will share some of my newsletter report with you: A few years ago we had made contact with Mark Fletcher, known as ‘Fletch’ from the TV program “Classic Restos” and he was hoping to attend our event prior to covering the Chryslers on the Murray but couldn’t make it. A casual phone call by Richard on the Thursday before Corowa prompted him to remember beingpreviously contacted and after several phone calls a deal was struck and he was able to attend prior to going across to Albury. He arrived on Wednesday in his 1969 Dodge Charger to start filming on Thursday. We took him out to the Wahgunyah Hotel for dinner where he met some of the participants which gave him an insight into the military vehicle scene as he has not done a program on military vehicles before. He was impressed that I was willing to help him with the filming and interviews and I made sure we covered a cross section of vehicles and participants. The day started at 7.30am with some footage down by the river and lagoon. Scott Rough provided the transport in his jeep and we made sure the Corowa Shire and Ball Park Caravan Park were highly promoted. At9:30 the photographer from the Border Morning Mail wanted to catch up with us and he asked for some vehicles to go down to the River. I phoned Richard who was wandering around Ball Park and he managed to rustle up some vehicles. The first person he spoke to was Bill Sjoblom with his Moke. Bill seemed surprised to be asked but Richard said it would make a good cross section of types. Another one was Richard Sanders in his GPA. They lined up at the top of the slope tot he river awaiting the call to move, a funny thing was other vehicles started to join the line, thinking it was the start point for the Thursday drive to the Rutherglen Public School. Fletch enjoyed the ride in the GPA and later in the afternoon in Bill Bates’ White Half Track. Interviews were done with the following people: Scott Rough - Jeep, Richard Sanders – GPA, David Smith – Meteor Engine, Jack Neville – Marmon Herrington, Limber and 25 pounder, David Furness – Nash staff Car, Bob Schutt – Armoured Scout Car, Julian Smith on his BSA, Cameron Reed in his Blitz and Hugh Thompson. He was also on site to get footage of people leaving on the Thursday trips. This will be shown in 4 major countries around the world so it will be good publicity for our event. Copies will be available once the TV program has been aired. Please contact me if you are interested.
  13. Mark Fletcher, known as 'Fletch' to the Aussies has always been interested in vehicles from yester-year and he achieved one of his dreams in 2007 when he started the TV show 'Classic Restos'. He has fun filming and producing the show. The show has now grown with Classic Restos Route 66, Classic Restos Bikes and Classic Restos Trucks. He has just started his second series of Classic Restos Trucks.
  14. After many hours of work the KVE Newsletter has been released. Thanks Richard for doing such a good job. I have emailed it to those on my database. There are a number of people who must have changed their emails so if you havent received the newsletter please send me an email kveinc@optusnet.com.au
  15. Thanks Richard for all your hard work in getting this completed. We were waiting on some information regarding the secondary location. After the showgrounds and racecourse in March 2012 we have negotiated with the Trust to use these facilities again. Please read the following information and if you would like to camp at the showgrounds we need you to contact Neville Smith ASAP. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PARTICIPANTS For those of you coming to Corowa with armour, vehicles and transporters, we have camping available at Corowa Showground. KVE have definitely secured camping from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th March, however we have been given approval by the Trust that manage these facilities that if needed, we can book from Monday 11th to Monday 18th March. The reason for this is that KVE will be charged $200 per day. As can be seen, to make it viable we need to know straight away as to how many of you are interested in using the site from Monday or anytime onwards. PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING  The camping fee per person, per day will be $10 each.  There are showers and toilets on site.  You will have to make sure you remove your own rubbish.  You will have to abide by any rules and regulations set by the Trust.  The Rotary Club may be able to organise meals on a couple of days during the week, subject to prior demand.  No dogs are permitted at this facility, see advertisement in this newsletter for local kennels.  Double the amount of undercover area is now available for the swapmeet. Please contact Neville as soon as possible: Neville Smith (KVE Vice President) on 0429 350 569 kveinc@optusnet.com.au Please let Neville know what days you expect to be at the Showground and how many persons coming with your entry. As you can see, the only way to plan this is to know how many people would like to use the site and when they will arrive. Prompt responses to using the facilities will give us a good estimate of how viable it would be to hire the site from Monday onwards, or whether to do it from Thursday onwards. Bindaree Motel and Caravan Park are also able to offer reasonably priced camping. KVE is a volunteer group and many of our Committee members have been working hard in the last few months to make this next event a good one, but one thing is lacking, that is knowing how many partici-pants and vehicles are going to enter and what their needs are, so please help us to help you. The Showground was first used last year for Saturday’s activities, and the overwhelming response to the venue was excellent, so please give it a go.
