Thanks Marty and could just as well be Normandy. Same design emplacements and bunkers.

Got to get over there! Yes Jack there was a German catalouge of bunkers, Fortification flat packs. Though there were a number of unique designs, such as the ranging towers in the Channel Islands.

I must get over your neck of the woods. No offence meant it's just fascinating to see other sites. Pictures and vidios just don't give the perspective to see how the fortifications fit into the landscape and what they were meant to do.

The Germans built a lot of fortifications along the Danish west coast. Many years ago attempts were made to blow them up but that was not a big success. Most have washed into the sea by now though.

My grandmother was working in the restaurant at Aalborg Airport when the Germans bombed it during the invasion. The airport is shared by civilian aviation authorities and the RDAF. She was so frightened that she ran all the way home - over 15 kilometers! She once had the (dis)pleasure of serving Danish pastry (ironically called Wienerbrød - Viennese Bread - in Denmark) for Goering. He was apparently quite fond of it and put away a whole plateful.

Thanks for sharing the story of your grandmother. It's always intresting to hear stories like that.

I will post photos from the bunkers at Sødervig some day too!
