1939 Hillman Estate parts availability

British vehicles are new to me/us and we are wondering a bit about the availability of parts for a 1939 Hillman Estate that we're planning on getting. The vehicle is said to be 90% complete.... (We hope ;-))

Technical manuals, repair manuals are handy, to start with. Any tips on vendors that specialize in Hillmans?

Thanks,

Micha and Goran

I had a 1938 Hillman Minx Saloon as my second car, a step upfrom a 1932 Austin 10. I will almost certainly still have a manual for it somewhere and a photocopy of the parts list. If they are of interest, let me know, i will have a hunt for them and they are yours if you want them.

Regards

Ken

I had the Hillman for about 3 years, reg was FUM 310. It was blue with black wings when i had it, with blue leather interior. It did me fine for the period i owned her. I am pretty sure someone told me they had seen it around, repainted as a staff car. I will have a hunt for the books, which are one of those things that i can always 'find' when i am looking for something else!

I'm not sure I know what the pre-war estate version looks like. Is it similar to the Hillman at post 18 here (essentially a converted van)? http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?20811-RAF-staff-car-gallery./page2

Speedy Spares can help with some things: http://www.speedyspares.co.uk/ROOTES/SVMINX/s_v%20minx%20report.html

Otherwise, try the Hillman Owner's Club for starters.

Hi,

Here's a picture of the Hillman before it went off to be sandblasted. Turns out that rust had not eaten too much of the body, but was very repairable.

The lower picture, obviously, shows a restored Hillam Estate (Picture taken off the internet)

Markings? Most Hillmans seem to be marked as RAF vehicles. What other parts of the military used them too? Army? (Mickey Mouse Camo would look good)

I'm sorry to admit that British WW vehicles are not not my forte [even though I love their "quirky" looks-and that in a kind way:-) ]
